surfinsnow I've been to K'wood five times -- most recently this February -- and my experience has been that it is always windy on some part of the mountain...especially the ridges, as you discovered. But, I said "almost." we made two trips to K'wood in Feb, and the first time was the most perfect bluebird day you could ask for, with calm conditions. The second trip a week later was just as sunny, but the day started out with #4 chair (The Wave) on wind hold. Even after they finally opened it the wind was so strong blowing into the face of the bowl it was difficult to drop in. So we bagged it and went back to the front of the mountain, where the wind was mostly blocked off, except for the top.

So, in short, I'd say yeah, Kirkwood tends to be windy, at least along the ridges.

Kirkwood, CA. And WIND!

Hands down, Kirkwood owns as far as Lake Tahoe resorts go. However, I went there today and it was my first time going on those double blacks. Particularly, "The Wall."

Is it always THIS windy up there? I understand it's ~10,000ft. high, but the wind was suffocating! It was blowing so hard that I couldn't catch my breath. And it flat out hurts when the wind hits you in the face.

Also, it sucked big time when you're on the lift, you're near the summit and some eats it while getting off the lift and the chairs stop. Then you're left up there, being battered by the wind.

I don't know if this is normal for Kirkwood. Still love that place though.
