JRosco You really can't go wrong with either of those mountains, but if you want powder, try and fallow the weather! Oh, and Heavenly is in Cali.

GorgeDad Another option for you could be in Summit County, CO. It's between Vail and Denver and there are a couple of towns you can stay in that are not right at a resort and so might be reasonably priced. The biggest benefit is that you have access to multiple mountains: Copper, Breckenridge, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin.

unfmoose CB is not too expensive. I haven't actually bought a bottle of water there because most places to eat have a cooler with cups. You can get a good meal at the bakery for 5-7 bucks. It still has your small town feel with prices reflecting a place off the beaten path, not a huge resort.

pinter Thanks for some replies. Is Crested Butte a huge resort that is all commercial and water costs $4.00 there? I don't mind making this my final choice but it's 200 miles further coming from the east and I want to make sure it's worth the extra cost and mileage.

I looked at Almont Resort but they seem to only have Cabins which is fine but are they heated? Weird question I know but I once rented a cabin at Mont Tremblant and they were not heated so we froze for a week.

Thanks

killclimbz I'd go with Crested Butte too. Give the crew at Almont Resort a call. They are about 15 minutes from the ski area. Half way in-between the towns of Gunnison and Crested Butte. They often have some sort of really good ski and stay deals each year. Generally a huge savings over staying in Crested Butte proper. Not too mention they have a bar and restaurant there. What more do you need?

gjsnowboarder I personnely would do either Steamboat or Crested Butte from your list. If you want the "GNAR" hit up CB. In fact just go to CB. If you want trees go to Steamboat.

Looking for a hill to ski/board in Colorado

Hi all,

I am from Canada and am looking to take a 4 day trip down to Colorado to going skiing/boarding and I am wondering what mountains I should consider. I am an expert skier and looking for powder, off piste, glades and lots of double diamond runs but not all are required but powder would be nice and thats why I want to go west to Colorado instead of just going to Vermont or Lake Placid and I can board I am not the best but I could handle blues and diamonds with little problems but I will mostly be skiing if the mountain is mostly expert. I am not into park at all.

Any suggestions? Price is a consideration for me so places like Vail and huge expensive resorts are out and I have been looking but there are so many opinions out there and since I have never been to Colorado I need some suggestions. I could even do 2 different places that are close to each other but 1 mountain is preferred.

Some places I have looked at are:

Crested Butte
Winter Park
Heavenly
Loveland
Steamboat

Places that look best for me are Loveland or Steamboat. I am not looking for a whole ski village and driving 20 min to get from the hotel to the hill is not really an issue. I don't need 5 star and will be staying at a basic hotel. I just want to go ski/board for the day, go back to the hotel and go eat and then sit back and relax at the hotel and then bed and then wake up and ski/board again for 4 days.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
