Detuning is overrated in my opinion. I've went all my years without ever detuning.
The only reason I see for detuning is jibbing. I doubt you're jibbing. Learn first and if you find that the board is still very catchy after you get good, then detune it.
If I can learn on a stiff positive camber board, you can learn on a softer magnetraction rocker board.
I agree with Lstar: Just ride as is.

Don't De-tune until you are riding rails and boxes in the park. Sharp edges are good. Out of the 100's of guys I've ridden with over the years ZERO de-tuned their boards to learn on.

I bought a GNU CC as my first board as well and went riding the past 2 week ends without any de-tuning.
It was a little catchy but I didn't feel that was holing me back. And I loved the magne-traction (I'm on the icy east coast).
Overall very happy with the board.
If anything, I'd say you should have realistic expectations about your board. It will definitely be much better than any beat up rental you've been on but don't expect to be bombing blacks diamonds by the end of the day either
I'm sure Panhandler's advice is good, I'm just saying that it's by no means a deal breaker if it's not de-tuned for this week end.

|PanHandler||detuning his contact points will help him learn how to initiate turns better because the board wont be so catchy.|

|Lstarrasl||Just ride it as is, don't fuck with it. Ignore all De-Tuning stuff until you know what you are doing.|

|PanHandler||an edge bevel can help out a beginner alot. it helps prevent edge catching but it isnt completely necessary and is more of a crutch. i suggest just riding your board and learning how to properly control it. However, i would detune your contact points if i were you.|

Brand New Board: (GNU CC) How Important Is It To Alter Bevel
Hey guys, I am a beginner, have boarded twice on rentals. Just got my GNU Carbon Credit today and I heard I should have the bevel/base altered. How big of a deal is this for a new like me? I was hoping to take my brand new board out this weekend, but wont have time to get this done. Thanks in advance for all of your wizardly advice.
