I don't recognize myself as republican or democrat. I agree with some things from one party and some things from the other. I vote based on who I agree with more. To me this mindset of which party is better is why we're in trouble, people follow their party blindly, I think the people who still think obama is this great president are just like the repubs who voted bush into office for his second term. I think for the most part individuals who recognize themselfs as one party or the other aren't as bad as the politicians, becuse democrat or republican politicians these days are one in the same, all they care about is staying in power for the perks.

Absolutely. The two party system, like that poster said, is destroying America. His point was people see themselves as a party member and take offense at anything proposed by the other party, instead of carefully thinking it through. The world is not black and white and it never will be, we need a system that operates accordingly. The sooner we can add more legitimate parties or simply not recognize someone as a democrat/rep even though they share our ideals, the better. It is a system for control. That is why republicans think the democrats are the ones that ruined the economy - they have believed talking points of the very people that put us into this mess and try to attack the opposing party.

Divide and conquer works. Effectively.

snowjeeper a note about term limits - the problem with that is the bureaucracy ends up becoming more powerful at that point. Because the politicians are expendable, employees in the public sector know that they'll ultimately out-last their "boss". Then you have lots of waste as the new people try to get up to speed. I'm not saying I support life time members of congress, but term limits aren't as simple as it seems.

snowjeeper I think that if two things were to happen things would improve dramatically. one would be all elections are publicly financed. the next would be making it illegal to donate, give gifts to, or anything else of the sort to politicians in any level of office.

2hipp4u Constitutional Amendment to stop all lobbying and intitute term limits, along with elections funded by the public. If you get rid of the money you will get a more honest congress. It won't solve all the problems but it would be a good start.
