extra0 anyone go up the weekend of April 14? Snow levels dropped to 4000 ft on friday and it dumped heavy all day. Saturday was knee to thigh deep and bluebird - wonderful! That'll probably be it for the season....great ending to a very rocky first half (literally)

extra0 march 18 and 19 were EPIC. Chest deep (if you stepped off your board). Waited all season for this. Little more crowded than usual (even on monday!), but still fresh tracks if you wanted. Hope we get a couple more dumps like this before the resorts close.

Snownad SPur was closed briefly today around 5.30 though.

What do you think the roads will be like on Friday and on the weekend? Is it possible that they'll be closed?

Very much so. BUT I am sure the CALTRANS phone will ring a lot..since resorts are counting on this last weekends $$. I am going up Friday and staying for the night. The Spur is the more likely to be closed.

icydog Kirkrider,

My friends and I are renting a cabin in South Lake Tahoe and driving to Kirkwood on Saturday and Sunday.
What do you think the roads will be like on Friday and on the weekend? Is it possible that they'll be closed?

7-Day Forecast for Latitude 38.7N and Longitude 120.08W (Elev. 7964 ft)

Tuesday --HEAVIER SNOW-- -> A stronger low pressure system is expected to move through as low pressure carves further south across the west coast. A nice fetch of moisture develops as this system has more over-water time, and with a strong orographically favored wind, we should see pretty significant snowfall.

Wednesday and Thursday --HIGHER SNOW LEVELS, HEAVY SHOWERS-- -> Snow levels rise to above 7,000 feet on Wednesday, with heavy snow above snow level as we see an unsettled southwest flow aloft and deep moisture across the area. On Thursday, the strongest storm yet moves in, with relatively mild air in advance of the storm, and snow levels up near/ above 7,500 feet. Heavy snow is expected mainly in the 8,000+ foot elevations, and wet snow/ rain below. Snow levels drop overnight as a cold front starts moving in.

Friday and Saturday --HEAVY SNOW, COLDER-- -> Heavy snow is possible into the weekend as a very strong and unseasonably cold low pressure system moves into the west coast. We could see snow levels down to 5,000 feet on Friday, and even 3,000 or 2,000 feet on Saturday as the system cuts southeast into California. CM
It snowed most of the day while I was at Alpine today, but it came with high winds that closed off most of the upper runs. Hope there is less wind with these forecast storms.
