Less craziness at Breck than Vail on Closing Day
Breck was a lot more mellow on closing day than Vail was last weekend on its closing day. Perhaps we just didn't know where to go, but there was no organized out of control partying at Breck like there was in Vail. Some costumed people at Breck, (the three boarders in business suits, one even carrying a laptop bag; Winnie the Pooh, a dude in a prom dress et al), but nothing like the freak fest in Vail. We knew people at Vail, and had an awesome time hanging with them, but we couldn't participate in the heavy drinking at Vail for our own safety's sake.
Also, Ski Patrol at Vail makes a pass at 4PM, let's eveyone know that they are on their own after that and allows people to stay on the mountain and party. At Breck the SP was shepherding us down after 4.
Either way, we had an awesome time closing out the resorts, but it is interesting to see the differences

Road conditions are much different now.
The drive home from Breck this weekend was drastically different from last weekend when we drove from Vail. Dry roads are a luxury. We made it home to Wash Park from Breck in 90 minutes, easy!

Sounds like a great finish.
The drive is super mellow now, and I am glad for it. It was pretty much a pain in the arse up until the main closing weekend.
I was up riding Winterpark on Sunday and didn't get to driving home until about 5. No traffic issues what so ever, except for the occasional jerk semi, but that's just I70 for you.

Mellow closing weekend in Breck
It was bittersweet in Breckenridge this weekend (4/19-20/08). Saturday was very warm, topping out in the 50's, but the snow pack was holding its own at the higher elevations with slight yellow snow patches occurring as you neared the lifts. Mrs. DBtv and I took a few runs down Peak 9 early in the day, then headed over to Peak 7 and had a great time. The snow was good with moderate spring conditions, but it made for very good riding.
We made it over to see Robert Randolph rocking out on Ridge street at the Spring Massive concert. The scene was packed and Robert was tearing it up.
Sunday morning I got up to the top of Peak 9 early and rode ice for a few runs until I spied the groomers at work on American run, and I took a few turns down that until Mrs. DBtv got us checked out of Great Divide and headed over to the Beaver Run Express where I hooked up with her and we headed over to Peak 7 where we rode all the runs a couple of times, until Ski Patrol closed that mountain for the last time this season. Conditions were starting to deteriorate by the end at the bottom but we had a super time all afternoon over there. Then we headed down Claimjumper to start heading home to Peak 9 via Peak 8. We stopped at the Vista Haus restaurant (top of Peak 8) for Mrs. DBtv to inspect the plumbing, and were honored to have Ski Patrol hustle us out of there as the season was officially over it being past 4PM. We slid down 4 O'Clock to Beaver Run and 07-08 at Breck was over for us. What an awesome season that began with the Snowboarding Grand Prix in December and progressed through some of the best snow in years and big time progression for me and Mrs. DBtv.
There's a lot of good snow left on the mountain in Breck but it is starting to melt fast.
Hurry up, November 08!
