Can't go wrong with the outlaw guys many have mentioned.... Waylon, Willie, DAC. Willie Ray Hubbard, Robert Earl Keen also both good. Shooter Jennings
More roots, americana artists.. Old Crowe as mentioned are great, awesome live. Ryan Bingham, The Avett Brothers, Felice Brothers, Deer Tick, Justin Townes Earle (and of course his pops Steve), Slaid Cleaves, Drive By Truckers, old SteelDrivers.
Some newer more blue grassy bands.. Railroad Earth, Yonder Mountain String Band, Greensky Bluegrass, Trampled by Turtles, Devil Makes Three, .357 String Band, Chatam County Line, Grandpa's Cough Medicine
Oh and anything Keller Williams does.

Here's a little bit of "country" stuff from some guys I've mentioned that I've recorded over the last couple of years that you won't hear on the radio:
ZBB with Robert Randolph and the Family Band "So Fresh, So Clean" (Outkast cover)
Zac Brown Band and Robert Randolph "So Fresh, So Clean" jam live at Red Rocks - YouTube
Jamey Johnson "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" (folk song most notably performed by Nirvana during their MTV Unplugged performance)

Not mine, but this is my favorite Jamey Johnson cover. He played it the night I saw him, but I didn't get it.
"Long Black Veil"
It's funny to go see JJ in concert. At least half of the show will be old school covers. Half of the crowd is digging the hell out of it and the other half is looking around confused wondering when he's going to play "In Color".

|NWBoarder||I'm not a country listener, but a girl took me to a Brad Paisley concert, and it wasn't bad. I would also suggest The Band Perry. They were pretty good for a country act as well. Otherwise, I'm all about the Cash and Nelson, though I still hold firm that Johnny Cash was more rock and roll than country.|
