I'd have to disagree, i went up yesterday just for a day trip and i got there early to beat the crowd. Yes it was busy, and yes plenty of beginners but they all stick to the south side of the mountain. In fact i have never seen so many cars on the drive up and every car park was full they had to park on the road down the mountain.

If you are a good snowboarder (i am by no means awesome) stick to the north side and lap runs like summit slide, rush run, ridge run. There are some chutes there and you can also run summit down into wenzel weave. Especially now with heaps of fresh you need to stay away from the crowd, and some of the terrain up there is pretty fucking gnarly.

The longest i waited for a lift yesterday was less than 5 mins so i think it goes to show if you go to the harder terrain you miss the wait.

Ricardo64 Don't waste your time at buller, it's too close to Melbourne, and fills with day trippers sitting in the middle of a run texting. The mountain can be good in exceptional weather. However mostly over crowded.

If you want a good mountain Falls or Hotham, the later is steeper and more challenging. Falls is a blast, wide open runs like Nz.

Your choice ..... Powderhounds; in search of the best powder ski holidays this will help

JaneR In my opinion Hotham is the best resort, but I can only speak for Vic resorts. Hotham has the steeper terrain and some good off piste when the snow is deep enough. Falls is a bit too gently sloped for my liking and not very challenging but it is a pretty setting. Buller is good too but the crowds often make it a frustrating place to go, even when you know how to avoid the worst lift queues.

Hotham and Falls do not get as busy as Buller because they are a longer drive from Melbourne. I stay in Bright to keep accommodation costs down and drive up to Hotham each day which only takes 45 minutes on a good day and an hour if its snowing. Another option is the bus from Bright. Bright is a good place to stay if you want to do Hotham one day and Falls the next as they are both equal distances away from Bright.
