henry06x I just miss the days of proper boxes to fit your shit in instead of just being rolled up in cardboard with a bunch of tape... But I don't know if that's who ships it or the shipping company.
They use to ring my door bell. Never waited till I answered and now they do nothing... Not even a quick knock.

CheeseForSteeze I've had more problems FedEx than UPS. FedEx never rings the bell and they've left the delivery notice on the wrong door many times.

SY81 First off, Snowolf, damn you and thank you.

As for the thread topic, most of the shipments I receive for riding gear is always smashed up. There's never been any damage so it doesn't matter to me. I had a friend who received his snowboard in a box that was clearly re-taped, he opened it up and the plastic on his board was also re-taped. Board was still in new condition though.

It's only with snowboarding gear though, everything I order from other retailers like Amazon show up in undamaged packaging.

If the trade-off for extremely customer-friendly return policies is crappy packaging, I'll take it, as long as the goods inside are undamaged. I mean, take dogfunk for example, their return policy is send it back whenever the heck you want even without a receipt!

As for the courtesy door knock / bell ring, I don't mind as my dogs are usually barking holy heck when they hear anyone come near the door.

UPS guys don't have the most glamours jobs, and there's always going to be the bad apple, like this guy:

But then you also have to feel for a guy actually trying to do a decent job and prevent a package from being stolen then having to deal with an idiot customers like this:

john doe UPS and Fedex both have the option now to pick up at a UPS or Fedex store. This is what I have got in the habit of using. It removes every concern about stuff being stolen or put in the wrong place. It also allows to get it sooner since all business deliveries are done in the morning.

If you don't want that then almost all problems with UPS/Fedex can be solved by a simple note. If a driver knows his effort to contact you will be worth it he will go through with it. It has worked %100 for me.

I was a local courier for over 5 years. Dealing with having to deliver to residences in the middle of the day massively sucked. Only about half of the door bells work and knocking does start to hurt pretty fast. Then you are left with waiting for someone that may or may not come.

duh UPS sucks. There are people here in Mammoth who watch sponsored riders houses for boxes left unattended. It's not like a board box is inconspicuous! I myself had a board box snagged off my porch a few years ago. Stupid theif took the VERY limited board up to the hill for a ride, he had a bad day.

Argo My ups and fedex guys open the door and put shut on the counter. He started doing it when I had my leg broken in Jan.

slyder again, your situation is specific. From your description you wouldn't be happy with me as I would do what it took to leave it. How would I know your dogs eat cardboard. I know my dog wouldn't. Dog bites are a big issue, insurance, doctor visits, the paper work involved. I'm sure you don't want to pay for a guy getting bit by your dogs trying to make you happy.

I will caution you though, if you have to many complaints against a driver or claims, UPS will require a signature on all your deliveries and if you aren't in you will need to pick them up. That being the case I'm sure you would just switch to FedEx.

Not all garages are open and labeled. Also not sure where he parks but, if it is 15 yards from your door that is 30 yards total. If his truck is another 10 yards to the curb, your running 50 yards to deliver one box. Not time or cost effective. Remember most of us already work a physical 10 hour day, adding more work means less time with our families as well.

Have you ever asked your guy to leave them some where that you will be happy??
Left a note for the UPS guy, please place package here. Some people yell if we open those gates, so now what do we do?
Communicating with him in some fashion could very well resolve all your issues immediately, worth a try. I have customer that give me their garage code and I open it, place package up by their door and close it. It is a win for both of us.

I hope you find some peace with this, as you seem pretty steamed about it.

I don't know about your specific situation since I can't see it, but it doesn't sound like an ideal location to try and deliver packages to.

You should seriously sign up for UPS MyChoice, you can track your packages online, give special delivery instructions, and authorize them to leave packages without a signature if you're not around. I've found it to be pretty handy myself since I'm rarely home during business hours and get a lot of packages.

Our garages are literally 15 yards away. Most the tenants use their garages as the front and only door for the house. The drivers see this, as they have to park in the neighborhood. They're really hard to miss, especially for a person who should be looking. You're saying it's out of question for a courier to deliver a package properly, and not check to make sure the garages they see open aren't an alternative place as compared to a place where dogs are? That also doesn't excuse the dicks from tossing packages over the gate, again without even checking the other door.
