blackraven64 Cool, thanks for the info. I think I'm set. I'm probably going to go with a forum recon, burton cartel bindings and get my boots at a shop.

Thanks for the help guys.

nzboardlife MTX gives you 7(?) points of contact while a conventional edge gives 1 or 2 or som'n

blackraven64 What is magna traction? I've gathered that they are bumps on the edge of the board but what exactly do they do for the rider?

Taking into account that magna traction isn't a good idea I'm considering the Forum Recon.

blackraven64 Thanks. I'm not totally sure as to what I'll be doing but I've got a feeling that I'll probably do a little bit of everything.

I was actually looking at the Gnu CHB MTX and it's become my first choice.

What would be a fair price range for boots when talking to the salesperson? I know that boots shouldn't be skimped on but I'd like to get a good pair without breaking the bank.

Minger You should look into a board in the 154-158 range, freestyle-freeride lengths. Any idea what you plan to be doing (park, all mountain?)

Good boards to look into:
Forum Recon
Salomon Prospect

Good brands - Forum, Gnu, Lib Tech, Burton, Rome, Salomon, Ride...there are a lot of others as well.

And definately try your boots in store. I'd get your equipment now while its cheap; Sierrasnowboard has everything for at least half off.

Things to avoid?

While visiting my uncle we went to a mountain and snowboarded for about a week. That really got me hooked. Right now I plan to rent a little more until I can get money for some equipment. I think I've got a pretty good idea of what I want, but I was wondering if there are any things I should avoid. ie. bad brands, notoriously unreliable parts, etc.

Although I'm pretty sure of what I might be getting I'm always open to suggestions.

I'm 14 years old so it's a safe bet that I will still be growing for a while.
