It's worse than wack! Bidding rounds go by seniority. And we're only allowed to have 5 ppl off on any given week. Add to that, we've got guys with 5 weeks of vacation to bid and they can split up 3 weeks of that to take long weekends & shit.

I've got 14 years with the company and I couldn't get a week of vacation in the summer if my life depended on it. (...fortunately, I'm not a sand & surf kind of guy and want all 4 weeks of my vacation in the snow!)

Even then,.. Some weeks are full up and unavailable to bid. (...February this time around was all full except a couple of mondays.)

david_z 7 hours is a hike no doubt, I feel like I would try to get at least 3 days on the slopes with that much drive time.

Last year, went to Pennsylvania, it was about 6 hours to Blue Knob. We left at 530am, got there around noon, rode until 4ish. Rode Saturday at Springs and also Sunday; Sunday we rode until ~3pm and were home by 9.

But that's nothing!! When we've gone to Bohemia in the past we leave around 9pm, figuring a 10 hour drive which can easily be 12+ if the roads are bad. If all goes well, you arrive at 7am, get an hour or two of "sleep" in the parking lot (or just suck down 64 oz of coffee and chain-smoke...), and then ride from open-to-close. Then ride another full day, and the third day usually until around 2pm, with the aim of getting home by midnight.

Did the same thing driving to Tremblant QC in '09 although on the way home we stopped about halfway, outside of Kingston, to break up the drive.

That is about as much as I'm willing to put myself through. 12 hours in a car or truck is no joke.

So far it's just been one trip a season. But we've yet to experience epic conditions, that might change it...

I just go with the flow, since my work and vacation schedule is super flexible. Slyder has to bid his vacation, so whenever he can go, I can go.

sabatoa Yeah the clocktower place is a thing, lol

I asked because if you were staying off-site then the strip of hotels just south of Petoskey is about half-way between the two hills. It would suck to drive all the way from one to the other when you're right on the hill.

Highlands will generally have better conditions, even though it's only 20-30 miles difference Highlands gets more snow.

That was really out of the norm for Highlands. Typically Mtn is more the party hill and Highlands is more chill.

Do you stay on site or get a place local?

Yeah, part of me wanted to go check it out still but we decided not to. Actually had some solid conditions if I remember correctly.

We stayed right on the mountain. I think we stayed in the Clocktower Hotel? Is that a thing? I may have my different trips confused haha
