sabatoa Last season was especially bad in December up north, the worst December since I started riding. I don't expect it to be like that again this season -but yeah SE Michigan doesn't get many dumps.

We have our annual Boyne Thanksgiving trip booked- hopefully we won't have to cancel again this season. Two years ago it was perfect, last season we canceled and I don't think I rode until the last week of December.

Where do you ride ctoma? North west lower peninsula (Cadillac and north towards Petoskey) get lots of snow during a normal winter.
A viewing party for The Fourth Phase? My invitation must have been lost in the mail...

We went to Boyne Highlands last year 12/28 - 12/30. Snow conditions were poor, just a few lifts and runs were open.

I haven't been riding much locally due to coaching youth baseball (indoor practices throughout the winter on weekends really interferes with getting up north). Since my son decided to retire from travel baseball I am no longer coaching so my winter weekends have been freed up.

I used to get the MSIA White Gold Card and my buddy and I would use it at Nubs, B-Highlands, B-Mountain, Caberfae and then the SE MI hills - Holly, Alpine, Brighton, Pine Knob.

We take an annual trip west and will be returning to Park City in February.

ctoma ^ Watch a whole bunch of snowboard videos, that might get you through.

I wish Michigan would show more than just the annual Warren Miller movie.

sabatoa Holy crap guys I got the bug so bad.

With the hot summer giving way to cooler days recently, my mind has gone straight to thoughts of the season and mountains that are starting to see some snow out west.

I dunno how I'm going to manage the next 90-some days until my first scheduled (fingers crossed on weather) trip.

sabatoa Speaking of that new lift, I see Cab updated their trail map to show where it's unloading. This is a pretty major improvement.

With two lifts servicing the top of the hill, it's really going to cut down on the quad line. From the looks of it, the new lift will better service Canyon so that you don't have to skate for 50 yards after unloading.

Caberfae Peaks Ski & Golf Resort | TRAIL MAP

This may be a game changer for the experience at Cab.

ctoma This is showing a cold and snowy winter for us:

In the end weather predictions are just that, predictions. No one really knows what's going to happen, just do your daily snow-dance for the snow-gods.

Holy hell, can you size images before posting them on a thread?

Farmers Almanac predicting mild winter for MI. I hope they're wrong cuz they got me feeling some type of way.
Chomps & Sab are on point about the crowds sometimes, although in my experience the crowds usually don't get bad until after January 1. If they are open earlier in December, the crowds usually aren't too bad. They get a good amount of natural snow there, and the terrain is about as good as you'll find anywhere in the lower peninsula.

Definitely stay away on MLK and Presidents Day weekends. Xmas holiday is hit-or-miss all around, I usually ride Cab & Crystal that weekend and most of the time the crowds are pretty tolerable.

They're installing a new lift this summer which should help redirect & alleviate some of the congestion, most of the lifts there are older & slower, so when it's busy, it's busy.

Still, it is hands-down the best bang for your buck. You can get a season pass for $199 through the end of August. If you're not willing to make that commitment,t hey often do discounted lift tickets on Fridays for facebook fans, and they have lots of other discounts, and you can almost always score half-price tickets on Liftopia.

Early or late in the season when all the runs aren't open,..? Cab is -meh- If it's crowded also,..? It goes from -meh- to DAFUQ?? Full open, Cab is actually pretty good! But it does get CRAZY crowded!!

Do the math, Shorter drive +Decent terrain +cheapest lift prices around = higher mid week crowds with Weekends/Holidays SUPER ShitShow squared!!!

That said, it is worth a visit!!
