atr3yu Ok so I went night riding tonight and half way down the first run I started to make switch turns! Only one at a time for a run or two, eating shit once in awhile, but on the third run I link 10 really sloppy turns!!! My knees and ass are killing me from eating it on the icy death that was the hill tonight, but so worth it. I also did a bunch of standing ollies and 180's, but still felt extremely sketchy trying an ollie while in motion. All and all I am pretty happy getting these things on their way.

I'd like to do backside stuff, like backside 180 or backside boardslide. It's tougher to do backside because you can't see, but I guess that's what makes it cooler and gives it more cool points.

The mission continues tonight. I am heading out night riding for a couple hours tonight and will be back at trying to ride switch. I think instead of trying to point her straight down and try to make turns I'll move more horizontal and make turns at the end of the run span. I figure I'll control speed better this way. No idea if it will work but I am going to find out.

Practice a few jumping 180s while strapped in at the bottom and not moving. I found the easiest one to do when moving slowly was frontside spin while riding toe side. I'm off on a similar mission this weekend.

Since you're falling just sliding 180 around I would work on your helicopters. Just sliding around in circles both ways. It should get you out of the "sequence" you go through when riding natural. It is how I warm up ever day. Also when I I ride switch my biggest thing is simply turning my head enough. I also find practicing switch is easier well away from the bunny hill. The bunny hill can be too flat for proper snowboarding.

Here is the guy that puts on slalom longboarding every Sat through out the summer.
He is a Machine.

He is also a snowboard & ski instructor.
This is him trying to learn, not switch riding, but riding the opposite stance.

This is the bunny hill as well.
Oh, & he is trying it with hard boots.

NWBoarder Just keep on practicing. It gets easier. I instruct once a week for a few hours and I've spent every class riding switch since all of the kids I teach are regular and I ride goofy. Now I can do switch ollies, switch presses, switch butters and just have an all around fun time riding switch. The trick is to be consistent in your practice. Don't stop trying just because it's hard at first. The kids in my class got a kick out of watching me fall semi-consistently for the first two classes. Now they ask me if I'm going to fall for them anymore. I just smile and tell them "Nope.". Then I'll try something like a switch 360 butter and eat it cause I'm still not great them, and the kids all laugh. Switch is fun. It's hard, but it's fun.

I have exact opposite issue as when I go switch I get uncomfortable and sit way in the back seat unable to make turns. I have to really tell/force myself to put some weight up front. I know I'll get there, was just way harder than I thought it would be.

Lifty What helped me most was consciously thinking about my body as I make my turns and carves riding "regular" and mimicking that when I ride switch. I, like most people, find myself putting most of my weight on my front foot when I ride switch, which completely changes how the board cuts on the snow. Consciously put more weight onto your back foot. Ride down half of the hill regular and truly think about what your body is doing when you turn and carve. Then start riding switch and do the same thing. Your body should be doing the exact same motions but with opposite feet. Hope that helps!
