Question Sa

Do you speak Spanish?

Are you looking for guides?

Do you have a budget for heli?

Are you backcountry skilled? (peeps, probe, shovel)

In the April issue of TWS there's an article about boarding in Argentina. The biggest thing I took away from it was that you have to be prepared for down days because the weather is unpredictable, which means you should stay for longer than a week.

Edit: They actually stayed at Las Leñas, one of the resorts you mentioned, so I would really check out the article if you haven't already.

Sparty: You are right. South America does receive HUGE storms (like more than a meter of snow in one night for example) and their road clearing systems are definitely a bit behind that of the States. When they get these huge storms, the roads to the resorts are usually closed for half a day or an entire day, then when it opens, crazy powder and bluebird skies!!!

i have looked into this in the past....

what i found was the only way to make the most of the journey is to heli-board it.

but go to chile where it is cheaper. apparently the chilean heli just flies onto argentine hills anyways!

(but i may be mistaken.... this was some years ago)

El Colorado to Las Lenas is approx 12 hours by road, subject to the road being open at the border. If there has been a storm the border can shut for several days.
