Default Partying in Vancouver

Hey every one

I'm flying in from Australia on the 10th of Dec and staying downtown Vancouver before heading off to Big White on either Monday or Tuesday, just wondering where the best place is to head out get lots of drinks and get loose on Saturdays and Sundays.

Jump on a ferry and head over to Victoria, I got properly pissed on just 4 pints of locally brewed island beer Thing is, I can't quite remember exactly where I went.... But Victoria is somewhat smaller than Vancouver, so pub crawling/staggering is fairly easy.
It's also a very nice and scenic 90min trip on the ferry. You can take a bus from central Vancouver to central Victoria which will include the ferry ticket.

There's a wide range of such activity joints in/near downtown Van. What kinda thing you into? Student pub boozing? Quality music/dj acts? Live bands? Etc?

It's a matter of knowing the venues and looking at what's on for those nights. Don't have time right now but lemme know some types of things your into and I will have a look around when I get a chance... right now, off riding

The most popular place to go out is downtown Granville St. It's you typical nightclub street, they close down the roads most weekends and it's full of drunk people. Being from Vancouver, I got tired of it fairly quickly, but I still go down there the odd night for kicks. Clubs close at 2 or 3am. Usually stop serving booze around 2. Music is top 40's, girls are mostly looking for a good time and looking good, but there's a lot of dudes. A lot of people from the suburbs head straight to Granville. For partying, its the highest density area for sure, and I've had many good times on Granville.

Gastown is nice, there's lots of great food, bars, and some clubs around there. It's usually more expensive, but I prefer it over Granville St. Places like the Lamplighter and Fortune can be a pretty good time.

Personally, I usually party more towards East Van. Places like the Waldorf, the Biltmore, and the pubs around tend to be where my friends are at. It's more Vancouver "art scene" if your into that, and they always have live music and dj's. The waldorf has 3 venues in it, so it can be a pretty good time. East Van has a lot of hipsters, but they're easy going. There's a better proportion of Vancouverites at these places. Suburban folks can have issues with pent-up sexual aggression or something. There's some pretty fun after hours places around here, but most places are done at 2-3. Same as everywhere, except for afterhours venues (many of which are illegal.) Sundays would be pretty tame in East Van, though.

If you're into gay bars, head over to Davie St. Places like Celebrities are usually mixed with straight and gay folks.

Really, it just depends what you're into. All these neighbourhoods are within a 10 dollar cab of eachother, and its super easy to catch a cab near bars and clubs. Cover is usually 8-15 dollars, depends what is happening where.

Edit: If you want to visit the quintessential Vancouver nightclub, go to the Roxy. All kinds go there, its smack in the middle of Granville, and its famous for all the pro hockey players that go there to pick up chicks. Its usually voted the best place in Vancouver to get laid, and there's always something going on.

Ahh awesome, sounds like Granville St may be the go or something. Not really fussed on music, just want to go have a good time and some drinks, mainly go to clubs over here that play electro and dubstep but then again seeing a punk band at a pub is just as good. Wow close at 2 or 3am? Thats really early. Mite just see when I rock up there, if anyone is heading out on that nite shoot us a PM.

Roxy sounds pretty good though haha

What he said. Haha yeh, good luck with the douche bags and bitches on granville.

Fortune sound club is good, hit them up on facebook to get yourself on guestlist, do it a couple days early to save yourself some pain and $ on the door.

Wasn't the jib kids causing problems, they just hike the rails. It's all the people who are all enthused 1st weekend its dry that block up the lifts, then you never see them again all season

partying partying yeah! partying partying yeah! fun fun fun fun looking forward to the weekend.

anyway can't really help you with that. i am not into the crazy clubbing thing nor drinking. there are some famous nightclubs that everyone know that are listed above. the last time i checked there weren't as many afflictions or ed hardys hanging around downtown, i guess that trend is over.

just remember it's easy to find a club in vancouver, they are everywhere.
