Okay so I'm going to the states next year, I'll be a couple of months off 21 fml... I can get a good quality fake Australian proof of age card and I was wondering if that would get me into clubs/bars, and/or for getting served at liquor stores. I know some places might only take passports.

I'm going to San Diego, LA, San Francisco and then New York after a month of boarding in Canada for anyone who is interested.

Basically I'm asking how successful I'll be with only a proof of age card before committing to buying one.

You'll be fine, I doubt they see many Aussie ID's to compare with so it's not like they're going to be familiar with our indicators that give away the fake ID's...

Then again, they may knock it back for being an overseas ID

Just be damn sure not to get caught since deportation might be a consequence.

Be careful, I have international friends at school who have been accused of having fake ID's and asked for their passport (even when they were over 21...).

In NY and LA they are going to be more lame and you should just be discretionary and smart.

99% chance imo you are fine, but you should probably be prepared with a good exit strategy and not choose a bad spot. Stick to dive bars and such. If you are going to NY cuz you wanna hit the club scene, too bad your not old enough - find some raves to goto and then you can just buy drugs instead. I would steer clear of places with a line to get in.

California is pretty chill, especially about drugs, but on the east coast they will throw you in the slammer for the night and talk to you in the morning. Getting deported would probably suck.

I know u didnt say anything about drugs but you wanna drink underage and while I don't think its that big of a deal, alot of people in this country do. Binge drinking is learned in our high schools and continues past college, its an embarrassing culture we have here that kills alot of young people.

Just do your drinking in Canada. You only have to be 18 in Alberta, 19 in most other provinces, and our beer is way better!!!

and seriously? Just stay out of touristy areas like hollywood/highland and Universal City Walk. Well lit fancy sports bars with lots of big tvs might also be issue.

If you stick to dive bars and clubs and you will be just fine. And we're WAY more uptight about drinking and driving then we are about weed.
