Hey...I'm going on a ski instructor course to NZ in a few days and was just wondering how easy it is to get a part time job down there?
I don't have a work visa because I left it too late to apply (6 weeks!!) but may get a permit depending on how long they take...but how willing are employers to just do cash in hand?

Also...I'm 17, nearly 18...how strict are they Re: drinking / bars etc?

don't count on work. you may be able to swing something but the nz govt have been known to do inspections, especially in hotspots like queenstown. most employers don't want to run the risk of getting busted. that being said i did know people who were working under the table. won't hurt to ask around when you get there.

as far as id goes, i was 25 while i was there and got carded EVERYWHERE, and they would only accept my passport.

yup. grocery stores, liquor stores, bars, pubs, wine tours. you name it i got id'd at it.

thats because theres a rule here that if you look under 25 you will be id'd, only some local liquor stores wont as they want to make the sale but the risk is to high for others, huge fines and loss of liceneces
