Are you staying in Durango for your Wolf Creek trip (90+ minutes away) or are you staying in Pagosa Springs. If you are staying in Durango proper, it's a college town. Plenty of Bars there to get your drink on. Some great places in the downtown area and a very young crowd. I would also recommend hitting Purgatory (Durango Mountain) as it is like 10 minutes from Downtown Durango.
If you are staying in Pagosa there are a few places. The Durango Brewery comes to mind. They make some good beer there. There is also a nice little Mexican food place on the main drag and a decent bar that I can't think of the name of. It's a little more local and redneck there, but not lumberjacks. More like Ranchers... |

Another bit of advice for you to consider.
Pagosa Springs is the nicer town. More to do, real snow shops there, and just more of a ski town feel. The drawback is that it's on the West side of Wolf Creek Pass. All the big gnarly avalanche paths that threaten the highway are on that side. So if it snows enough CDOT will close that side of the pass much more frequently than the South Fork side which rarely (but does on occasion)closes. The Pagosa side will be closed at the bottom of the pass, while the South Fork side is generally open to the Summit, therefore giving you access to the ski area. Problems with Southfork is that it's much more beat than Pagosa. A few ok restaurants and not much else. Feels like a truck stop there. I usually take my chances with the Pagosa side and haven't been skunked yet. I had some friends that had 3 days where they couldn't get to Wolf Creek because the pass was closed. They were bumming. |
