NYC to VT, (Fri-Sun) trip?

I'm new on this side of the pond.

What the most convenient way for a weekend of decent snowboarding? I assumed there would be loads of buses leaving NYC Friday afternoon and returning Sunday evening, but seems like they all leave stupid oclock in the morning Saturday. Not much chance me getting out of bed for that.

Looking at distance is it just because of Friday traffic and the distance getting you to VT too late?

What are the best options?

Cheers!

Most bus trips are for the day only and are run from ski shops. They usually don't do the whole weekend unless you're taking another independent bus service.

Best way to be honest is to find 2 or 3 friends who snowboard and drive up with someone's car. It's so much cheaper, but someone has to be willing to drive.

Easiest way is to find 3-4 friends, one of which who has a car and drive up Friday night. You'll be at the "good" places like Mount Snow, Killington and Loon in about 4-5 hours, depending on traffic. It'll be longer to get to Smuggs or Jay Peak.

Then, do your homework and find a cheap B+B or motel. I did this w/ friends a couple times and rooms were like $120 a night split 4 ways = cake.

Or, get the hell outta NYC and move to Boston instead. Much closer to good riding. Or better yet, move out west.

That's actually not true. While its nice to be able to drive up with friends it actually doesn't cost you less. The companies that go up have some sort of deals worked out were you are actually paying less. A lift ticket at Mount Snow is $87. You are paying that plus whatever your share is for gas and tolls. You go with one of these bus trips and you are only paying $100 for transportation AND lift ticket.

Yes, for the day trips. I'm saying for multi-day or weekend trips. Once things go overnight, they decide to charge you much more. It's probably because they need to compensate the driver a full 24-hr more.

Here's a secret... The price of lift tickets is beyond inflated. They can survive on about 50 dollars a ticket... Seriously I ride for $7.50 a ticket at Cannon through a deal worked out by my school. They get a lump sum from the school and it's only a few thousand dollars. Bottom line is we keep the mountain busy and almost always wind up buying stuff while were there stuffing more money in there pocket.
