Well that is why I ask because I would make the drive up. From what I heard the weather should be more than good enough to open. I guess we will wait and see. Cross your fingers
My guess is not this weekend, but next. Up until this week, it has been unseasonably warm so my guess is that they haven't had a chance to make snow, and clearly they haven't had much natural yet either. I'm sure they'll continue making snow like mad now that temps are back to more typical ranges for this time of year (and there is more snow in the forecast too).
Interestingly, they used to typically open in October, but it must not have been worth it:
They did it in 05/06 so it's all on conditions. I have heard conditions near the top are perfect for snow making and they have been getting natural snow since yesterday. It looks like they turned on the guns yesterday so I don't think they did that for no reason. Those things are expensive to run so it leads to a Saturday or Sunday opening......but we can only hope and wait. I was reading they will announce it today between 10am and 2pm if they will open or not.
Holy tits! I am driving up there the second I find out they are opening! I was so stoked that it was snowing last night and the only thing I could think of was pulling out the board, waxing it up and heading up north! Let's see it dump!
Oh well, guess I was wrong... I really want to go for opening day sometime, but this is sounding like it could be a white-ribbon-of-death type scenario. :dunno: Although I'm very conflicted, starting my season in October would be fantastic. Last year, I didn't make it until November 11, but by then they had 4 or 5 trails going and snow coverage and condition was quite good on what was open. Anyhow, for those who head there, have fun!
Ugh I want to go so bad but 8 hours from NJ seems intense for such a short notice trip they may be a wash?!?! anyone driving long distance that can convience me it's worth it?
I agree. I'm only 4 hours out and would love to go but as stated, there's only going to be a handful of trails open and I'd rather wait one or two more weeks as they should have a lot more terrain open by then. They are supposed to get smacked with a pretty decent amount of snow this weekend from what I've heard so hopefully within the next two weeks we'll see a lot of progress
I wanted to be convinced it was a good idea… you guys are just confirming this isn’t worth it. We need the Polar Express!! Looking at the forcast it looks like we would have way better conditions in PA and NY. Maybe staying home wont be so bad.
have you guys ever actually planned a random trip with people from this forum who you havent actually met before? I mean just randomly like, "hey screw it lets roll up to Killy together to save on gas."
My first time at Killington was exactly this. 25 people from all over the NorthEast (Ontario to NYC) decided to just meetup at the mountain. We rented a house for two nights.
Currently planning another one for January - looking for a house for 20 people.
If they open this or next weekend, I might have to pull a long drive down.
