Snowboard stores near Manhattan

Recently moved here and looking to buy new gear. I'm brand new to the sport so want to avoid shopping online so I can really see what I'm getting.

Any good stores in or near Manhattan would be appreciated. I don't have a car so places that are easily accessible are preferred.

Do you have any idea what your looking for?

Just don't want someone new to the sport to waste their money and a few months later completely regret their purchase...

Snowboarding can be a VERY complicated industry depending on what kind of rider you are and what kind of terrain/riding you do.

Yeah, I'm looking for a board and bindings for a beginner/intermediate rider. I posted something the "Boards" forum and have gotten some feedback so I have a decent idea on what I want. Just need to physically go to stores and check out the merchandise myself.

Not sure of what shops are around in the city but if you don't mind hopping on the E train and taking it to Forest Hills (Queens) come check out Emilio's on Queens Blvd.
I received a 10% off Black Friday (and Saturday) coupon yesterday. Shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll email the coupon to you. It's good 11/25-11/28.

Some other members in the city have mentioned Blades and Paragon.

The Meadowlands Mt. Everest sale is about to happen -- next week I think -- and they offer a free shuttle to the stadium for the sale.

I've lived in NYC my entire life... man I hate Paragon.

In addition to the shops mentioned, there are a couple of good places in NJ if you've got yourself a Zipcar.

Thank you!

Sick guys! Thanks for the recommendations. The Mt. Everest sale looks interesting. I'll check out the other stores as well.

Happy I found this forum!

Agreed - the Mt Everest Meadowlands sale is something to check out and if you have access to a car there are great shops in NJ worth the drive. I've never been to Blades or Paragon so can't say much about them besides their location.

Paragon is the best sporting goods store in the city. Four floors of just about you need. They're known to be a bit pricey but they do price match online retailers. Haven't been to their snow sports section in a while, but it's just as good as any other in the city.

Also REI just opened a huge store in SoHo, I think its actually opening weekend right now. I've never been to one of their stores, only ordered online, but I'm assuming they'd have a solid selection also.

I'm not particularly fond of Paragon as a store because of the huge amount traffic and the hipsters at most of the sections but the snowboarding dept is pretty solid. A couple of the guys there are knowledgable and really attend to you. I stop by if I'm in the area and talk about the conditions in the area and see what new stuff they got. I got my girlfriend a pair of boots there last weekend and they hooked her up and let her walk around the whole store in a couple of pairs of boots to see which fit the best.

For all my stuff I usually I go to Gilly's Snowboard Shop in Pittsfield, MA. Its a good drive (~3 hours from the city) but my brother goes to RPI so I always make it out there when I pick him up. B.Gilly on the forum here owns the shop and I've never had a better experience at a snowboard shop.
