Quickly losing my stoke as temperatures rise into the 40's and 50's again for the next 4 days and then more rain the day after that.

Ugh, this winter is just brutal. Looking at the weather here in SE PA it looks like a nor'easter might move in but its going to bring rain and maybe a little snow on the tail end. Its gonna get colder after that but then it warms up again and there is no snow in the forecast. It looks like the North Atlantic Oscillation is going to remain positive keeping cold air from moving south for any long period of time. Im starting to think that some of the resorts in PA might not be able to fully open all season.

By this time last season I had 6 days on the snow and as on my way to a record setting season getting more than 28 days of riding. I have had one day of riding and was in 50 degree slush this season
. Had a half day off this past friday and was ready to go even though the temp was in the low 60's. It just wasn't worth the two hour car ride. I went mountain biking instead. This has been and is ridicules! Warmest winter since I started snowboarding more than 5 years ago.

Continuing the endless cycle of winter looking like its coming in 2 weeks... it now looks like we might go warm again sometime after the 20th. Also getting lots of rain Thursday in the NJ/PA area.. at one point it looked like the Pocono mts might get some snow but now will be too warm.
The answer appears to be go north. Sugarbush and above. Maine and NH should also do well with this week's event. Southern VT should get some snow but also some mixing. Hunter will be interesting to see how it turns out. Last edited by SnowRock; 01-10-2012 at 11:34 AM. |

Looks like starting today through Friday we are getting a mixed bag in the NoNos and NW NJ. Some periods of snow, some periods of mixing, some periods of rain.. lets hope the rain totals are on the low end of the spectrum and the snow totals are higher. Depending upon how it goes, I might hit Camelback Friday and will report back what it is like.
You have to feel for a place like Mt Creek.. the dumped a TON of money into that place this off season to have a winter like this?? No fun for them. |
