What is UP with this weather? My forecast has 3 days of rain in it for this week after the 4 days of rain last week and we have not had a drop of snow all season and temps are still as high as 50. Conditions are beat to shit at my local mountain.

Alyeska:
104" in base
1" last 24 hrs
Dec 31st: 2"
Dec 26th: 1"
Dec 25th: 8"

8 of 9 lifts open
68 of 72 trails open

current temp in girdwood, AK: -8

It'll be sad if I get better boarding for 2 days at Alyeska the week before I go to Breck for a week.

Seriously STFU about anything in Alaska... it's a whole different ball game up there.

And yes I am bitter that I just got back from a 2 week trip covering Utah, Jackson Hole and Tahoe and didn't see more than ice and groomers the entire time... Heavenly only has a 22 in base... and its ALL man made.

If you could go anywhere in eastern PA right now, where would be the spot to go? I have some friends wanting to take a trip this weekend and I have no idea where to send them... Seems like the largest bases are at Sno Mountain, Big Bear, Big Boulder, Jack Frost and Camelback...

Suggestions???

just got back from camelback and it was pretty good. it was starting to snow when i was leaving too.

i was at blue mountain last week and it wasnt half as good as camelback was yesterday.

edit: if you guys like to hit the Park i wouldn't go to camelback. i mean you could but you would have to watch a video online, take a dumb test, and then pay extra. i'd def hit Blue or Big boulder if that was the case. not sure how boulder/jf are with snow yet.

Im from back East man.. I totally feel your pain. I live 6 hrs from the closest good stuff in AK and its not exactly a drive through the park to get there in the winter. Only reason I'm getting to go this year is because I'm flying there for work. Fairbanks is shit for boarding....I moved up here and had hopes of awesome boarding everywhere all the time... I did not do my research.

Man I miss riding in Alaska. I got the chance to live in Wasilla last year so Hatcher Pass was like 20 min away and Alyeska was about 1 1/2 hours. Epic riding eventhough last winter up there was not as good as some of the others. This season sucks here, I hate riding this ice now that I got spoiled riding Alaskan Pow. Before I didnt mind the ice so much, now I hate it.

Ugh, this winter is just brutal. Looking at the weather here in SE PA it looks like a nor'easter might move in but its going to bring rain and maybe a little snow on the tail end. Its gonna get colder after that but then it warms up again and there is no snow in the forecast. It looks like the North Atlantic Oscillation is going to remain positive keeping cold air from moving south for any long period of time. Im starting to think that some of the resorts in PA might not be able to fully open all season.

By this time last season I had 6 days on the snow and as on my way to a record setting season getting more than 28 days of riding. I have had one day of riding and was in 50 degree slush this season :(. Had a half day off this past friday and was ready to go even though the temp was in the low 60's. It just wasn't worth the two hour car ride. I went mountain biking instead. This has been and is ridicules! Warmest winter since I started snowboarding more than 5 years ago.

Continuing the endless cycle of winter looking like its coming in 2 weeks... it now looks like we might go warm again sometime after the 20th. Also getting lots of rain Thursday in the NJ/PA area.. at one point it looked like the Pocono mts might get some snow but now will be too warm.

The answer appears to be go north. Sugarbush and above. Maine and NH should also do well with this week's event. Southern VT should get some snow but also some mixing. Hunter will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Looks like starting today through Friday we are getting a mixed bag in the NoNos and NW NJ. Some periods of snow, some periods of mixing, some periods of rain.. lets hope the rain totals are on the low end of the spectrum and the snow totals are higher. Depending upon how it goes, I might hit Camelback Friday and will report back what it is like.

You have to feel for a place like Mt Creek.. the dumped a TON of money into that place this off season to have a winter like this?? No fun for them.
