I was at Camelback in PA last weekend, first time, and left my board on a rack only about 20 feet from where I was standing. I was already sketched being in a place I was unfamiliar with, so I was keeping a close eye on my ride. I spoke to a tech outside a shop for a minute... saw someone pick up my board... I ran over --> literally READY TO KILL --> almost dropkicked the kid, then I realized he was wearing ski boots... and was just moving my board to get to his skis...

I am really lucky I didn't drop that kid and stab him with a ski pole... would have been my first AND last time at Camelback...

They have a board check at Camelback. They make you pay for it (and their terrain park) which is part of the reason I infrequently go there.

Recon 1 is my preferred deterrent. I love the deep bellied clip point blade and the Triad lock is one of the strongest I've ever used on a folder.

Do you guys trust board check areas anymore? I usually just see a guy chillin in the shack next to it the board check area, seems like it is as easy to walk up and take a board to me.

Our small, small hills around here have legit board checks. They too chill in a shack, but the boards are fenced off. It's easy to step into this area yes, but very, very obvious if someone chooses to do that.

I would hope you guys that are spaghetti monster blessed with bigger resorts have a just as legit board check area.

Same with the checks at Blue and Camelback. They are fenced off and while anyone could walk into the area, it would be quickly obvious. Unless the board checkers themselves want to run some sort of elaborate scam to misplace and/or swap boards, they are somewhat failproof.

The number of times I've heard of someone actually catching the thief with their board is far far fewer than the number of times I've heard "I just stepped inside to...."

I'll bet most of the thieves just move it to a rack around the corner or throw it behind a snowbank (or take it to board check) 10 seconds later and you'll never find it or them.

I can't count the number of times I've checked out a board leaning against the wall because it was a newer model than mine or had different graphics (I don't touch) and nobody came racing out of the lodge to confront me. Or lit a smoke, watched someone place their board against the wall and then watched them work their way thru the lodge to get their chili cheese fries. I usually can finish my smoke before they're in sight of their board again. Hell, takes me enough time to spot my board thru the windows when I first sit down.
