I am not Sam Champion but it appears to me that there is a lot of variability in the models in terms of storm track. It looks like there is still definitely potential for accumulation in some of the Pocono mountains and Mt Creek perhaps.. Elk will probably be too far north/west. I am probably being way too optimistic
Totally screwed. Storm system will stay to the south of PA. Places like kentucky are going to get dumped on while we pray we can ride our ice for a few weeks longer. Think im done with hoping this winter will bring one storm as we cant even get that.
And another warm up next week. I'm our for San Diego on the 24th anyway...just hoping Killington gets something as I'm taking the family up there for a week when I get back from San Diego.
Just got back from Elk. It was my first time ever going. Got there about 10:00 and stayed until 4:30. Conditions were okay, hard pack especially up top, and softened up towards the bottoms of runs. There was better coverage than at Camelback or Blue but the trails had some deep and long divots in places, almost like sinkholes, one of the liftys said it happened when they groomed last night. The quad got really crowded late in the afternoon. I was a single so I could get on the lift quick but anyone in a group had to wait a long time. The trails always seemed fairly empty though which was nice. Wish it was closer because I definitely had a good time.
I'm thinking about heading to Camelback on Sunday. Does anyone know any good boot fitters nearby or ones that would be on the way from Philly. I'm going to try a shop out here in South Jersey tomorrow. I can't stand these fu*king boots anymore.
"The Loft" is literally AT Camelback (actually there are 2. 1 AT the mountain and a much bigger and better one right down the road like a mile) They have a HUGE selection and will get you hooked up with anything you need from boots to boards to goggles to bindings. Would recommend the one a short distance from the mountain as the one at the base lodge is much smaller and not as customer friendly as I don't think even HAS boots.
ending up getting some 32s at buckmans. they had a decent sale and they fit awesome.
tried them out at camelback last night, took me awhile to get used to not having to tie them as tight as my old boots, i kept having to loosen them up but once i got them right, man what a difference
camelback was packed yesterday with more amateurs than usual. atleast twice i had people on the lift lose their balance and grab on to my and almost bring me to the ground when getting off. tourists sitting down on the features like they were benches. :dunno:
If you can make it, VT is the way to go. I've been wanting to go to Camelback myself as its relatively local for me and a cheaper trip but the conditions this season just killed all that. Its a bit icy up in VT too but its a lot better then you will find in the Poconos.
Plus VT is getting snow right now. Like 3" or better with more potentially coming this week
went to blue mt yesterday. conditions were decent in the early afternoon, but around 6 pm it got hella icy. i was going to get another session in regardless of conditions. knee surgery is wednesday. i guess im done for the year.
unless i rehab and heal quickly in time for late march. and it snows in late march.
I just got back from my school trip to Stowe this weekend, and it was insane. It was a white-out blizzard all day Saturday, and Sunday was absolutely beautiful. I never experienced Vermont before so I have to say I was EXTREMELY impressed. Great trails, great snow, and over-all, alot of fun. I'm going to cry when I go back to my local PA Mt. and see all the slush T_T
Probably going to Boulder this Sat. Elk is staying open just to meet their 100 day guarantee to pass holders. Might go to Hunter but web cam looks bad. Northeast was pretty much done since last week.
gonna try to hit boulder on saturday, though hunter looks more promising. im hoping vt mountains hold out for another week or two. id really like to get 3 more days on the mountain at least
