Unfortunately it's deeply engrained in our culture at this point to shun anyone who's suffering from a mental health issue in one way or another. I've been guilty at points in my life for making fun of people that were on anti-depressants. I made fun of somebody smart enough to go and try to get help! Now possibly the help provided (quick give them drugs and get to the next patient!) is what I should have been making fun of...

Whether mental health relates to this incident or not, it is something we need to confront head on. It's amazing how much better life can be when you get past a stumbling block in your brain... I KNOW.

It could help somebody from making a HORRIBLE decision.

Sometimes I think the world is getting less crazy but then stuff like this comes along. RIP

So disturbing... 22 kids were also slashed/stabbed today at an elementary school in China by a 36 year old with a knife. It's not a gun issue, it's a crazy people issue

I also think if we had a better school system in north america it could reduce how many times tragedys like this happen.

Those are not 22 dead kids though. I am pretty sure there are parents of 18 kids right now that wish this was the attacker they faced.

even if we do make all guns illegal that still won't keep them off the streets and in peoples hands. just like drugs and other shit like that.

It would be a long time, but unlike drugs, you can't grow guns. Australia outlawed guns completely and they are not having in .001% of the problems with gun violence that we are.

Not that I am really for guns be outlawed. That's stupid. Too many legitimate uses. Some of these larger caliber, just for killing guns aren't really all that necessary either.

There are no larger caliber "just for killing people" guns. A human can be killed with a .17 hmr, a .22 or a .50, it doesnt make a difference. All the people talking gun control, these shootings have nothing to do with gun control! When was the last time you heard of a law abiding criminal? You really think that some guy is planning to shoot up a bunch of people, so he goes out and gets his concealed carry permit first? Hell no, he just goes and shoots a bunch of people. I really don't understand how people think that by making it illegal to do "xxxxx" it will stop criminals from doing "xxxxxx". Last time i checked, killing people is illegal, so why are they still doing it since its illegal

My heart goes out to those families affected by this senseless shooting. It shows a need in this country to discover what is leading to people making these decisions that are contrary to normal everyday life. I hate to think that people are going to say that gun control is needed. I want to remind everyone there having been tragedies in the US with multiple deaths that didn't involve a gun. Fire, spiked Flavor-Aid, vehicles, and explosives have all been used to end life. I believe society faces a value crises. I'm not saying teaching students religious values, but common-sense life lessons. How to deal with loss, make decisions that don't limit survival, seek help, etc. I believe the disconnect that society has due to a decrease in human to human interaction makes it easier to jump that line from fantasy to enacting out in reality. So take the time to reflect how you interact with others both through technology and not. Might be a kind word here or there might make a difference. Not tearing people down or belittling a person could make the difference.

Unbelievable. Fuck, this shit makes my head hurt. I am a high school teacher and after this kind of shit goes down it seriously makes me think really hard about leaving the profession. It happens far too frequently The bottom line is our schools are not at all secure. How in the hell did this fucktard manage to get into the elementary school in the first place? The answer is simple, people come and go as they please in a vast majority of schools and no one is ever searched. I mean, you pass through a metal detector to get into any government building in the country, but why not schools? It's fucking ridiculous.
