I am so sorry that the children - victims and survivors - had to experience this senseless tragedy. My heart and thoughts go out to the families and all involved (faculty, responders, etc.). Had to choke back tears when reading and hearing the reports from the surviving children...this is horrible. Just horrible. |

Sadly, this whole thing will be forgotten in a short while overshadowed by some other stupid shit like the fiscal cliff...that is until another tragedy happens. Your buddy's opinion has merit, but would require parents to take far more responsibility than they are willing to do, therefore gun control or improved security becomes the quick "band aid" solution in my opinion and unfortunately is one of the only realistic solutions. We have a number of "kids" in our neighborhood that could greatly benefit from effective parenting. In fact we have a number of parents that could benefit from some parenting. Not long ago the kid down the street got picked up for dealing out of his house. Nothing like seeing him roll around in a lincoln LS and his buddies Audis and BMWs thumping through the neighborhood. Notice how most of these people are below the age of 30? With a slim chance at opportunities a lot more people are gonna snap. There is a ton of pressure and little chance of success. Most of these people are people who fail and want a way out. Why Canada doesn't have the problem? A lot less of the bullshit that is going on here. When you live somewhere where failure is unacceptable you'll get people who fail and can't deal with it and do this shit. As for Norway? I can't say, not to up to date on Norway. They do have pretty similar characteristics as the U.S though.

Gun control debate goes here. I think Streetdoc has the right idea. If we want a full-bore gun-control debate, go there. If you want to talk about stuff relating to this specific tragedy, this is the thread.

Best plan right there. We might be able to influence the adults of this nation, but children are more receptive and are the future of our nation. |

My earnest wish (other than the obvious one that this wouldn't happen again) is that they take down one of these pieces of shit before he can kill himself. It would be useful to study the fucker, and maybe learn something about what sets people off like this. No anesthetic, of course. Vivisection completely ok.
