Noob needs some Advice - Snowboarding Forum

Sup Guys,

Over the past few years I've been trying to get into snowboarding but never really had enough time to go for long enough. It always turned into 1 day trips and at the end of the day I'd start getting comfortable but then I wouldn't go snowboarding again until next season, and it would be the same thing all over again. I've done this like 4 years in a row I think and I'm sick of it.

Anyway, I want to start this season off with a 3 day weekend devoted only to snowboarding. I want to take a bunch of lessons and whatever else I will need to do to really get the hang of it. Then I'd like to get my own board/gear and turn this into a serious hobby this winter.

So what mountain would you guys recommend I go to do this? I was thinking Killington but maybe there is a better place to go for what I am looking for. My main goal is to find a good snowboarding teacher I guess.

Any help would be great.

You live in Vermont or is that the closest hill to you?

I'm actually in NYC but have always gone to VT for skiing/snowboarding. Mainly Killington and Mt Snow. I'm open to any suggestions.

Can you make weekday trips? Mountain Creek in NJ is ~45 minutes from the GWB. If you can get there on a weekday it's usually pretty empty. I haven't been there on a weekend but I'm assuming its a shit show. It doesn't compare with Vermont but you don't need it to when you're learning. I'd recommend private lessons but if you can't afford that, this is a pretty good deal.

^Sounds like a great deal especially if you're relatively new.

If it's just you or just another person I would stay local and use the money saved towards gear if you really get into it. Now if there's a bunch of you making a VT trip then I say go for it. Are you the only one trying to learn? For me, there was a like 4 of us trying to learn to ride back in the day which made it more fun for me. Although the time it finally 'clicked' I was alone on a green making turns by myself.

I also would try doing weekdays since it wouldn't be as crowded. No added pressure, maybe a smaller group in the lesson so you can get more hands on teachinig.

You really don't need VT to learn though. Even the tiniest hills would be fine just to learn once you get some lessons under your belt. Going several days in a row would be the best bet. It's all about practice and finding the groove in the beginning.

Make sure your legs are ready. Especially if you are doing a 3 day trip. That first day can be killer.
