I was there this last weekend, Saturday was but Sunday wasn't crowded. Lift tickets are a bit expensive but this place rules. It is the highest summit in the East Coast, lot of trails, no long lines, progressive park stuff etc.
It is definitely a more serious mountain then Windham, Hunter even the ones In VT, Killington, Stratton etc. I notice that there is no, if any, bus services up there but it's definitely worth the trip. I was there for 2 days and it didn't stop snowing lot of fresh powdera pic from the 4400 feet above

I went a while back and thought it was brutal. Very windy and the big vert they claim is only accessible if most chairlifts are open which happens rarely I am told since it is very windy most of the time.
Very icy almost unridable conditions due to the direction the mountain is facing, theres a reason it is called Iceface. The exchange rate for canadian money was also .75 american for each canadian dollar and this was when can$ was worth more than US$. This was a couple years ago but I am guessing not much has changed. Go a bit further and head to Vermont. Snow is much better and people are generaly nicer. |

i am not really sure what you guys mean by icy, i mean it just wasn't, well maybe during my time there, it just didn't stop to snow... and oh yea, I have been to top and bottom so many times blacks blues etc.
also I am no Canadian but remember seeing the exchange rate to be .90 not .75, i know thou these things can change hourly. also you need to remember, in canada, exchange rate for dollar will be .90 in US exchange rate will be .90 for canadian dollar it's just a thing, commissions etc. it doesn't show the value of the currency

Whiteface is perhaps one of the "riskier" destinations in the east. No question about the quality of the mountain. Vertical, quality of trails, variety, slides, it has outstanding offerings. The problem is how often is it all available?
If the wind blows, an it often does there, they shut down the top half of the mountain. If you look at the trail map, that leaves slim pickings. If Summit is closed, you can bet that Lookout is down as well. The Gondola is often down due to wind. So what's left? Face and Little Whiteface. I was unfortunately there when that was the exact situation for two days, on Presidents day weekend no less. You want to talk about lineups. The lower half of the mountain is short of lifts and when the top is closed, your options are next to none. And with the wind, the slopes we could access were bare, and Iceface showed her true colours. ![]() Would I go back again? Yes, I would like to try it again. But only on short notice, having checked the weather very carefully. I would not book this as your BIG trip of the season. It is just too sketchy too often. |

![]() of course, there's always hiking. but not too many people are keen to do so and even then it presents its own dangers. but if you're intrepid enough sometimes the rewards are quite worth it. Last edited by onefutui2e; 02-28-2013 at 01:44 PM. |
