Default Mt. Bachelor... POW

Waist deep powder at bachelor! I've never surfed like I did today. We hiked to the top of a mountain for a surf ride down just in time for the NW chair to open.

From pine Martin to NW chair was just plain disgusting. Floated the entire way. For me it wasn't as much the powder(we were first in line for the shorter runs) it was the length of the pine to NW powder run. Its a good long run....untouched (the first run). Litterally surfed for what seemed like forever.

I had the longest best run Ive ever had in untracked pow ....

Had a max 48 mph and 47* slope per ski tracks gps.

Biggest thing was that run from main to west side... Just crazy

Well from my ipad it seems i cant post the cropped pic, the focus is the mnt in the distance.

The pure pow descent hours later. This was a 15 min hike... Whoever laid the first steps up was IN SHAPE lol

That's the cindercone. There's a monster jump dropping down into the hike up and if you bomb the hill down the landing you can get pretty far up the side of the cone and the hike isn't that bad. Almost always worth it tho... Good times

I didn't see any jump from my approach, but my bomb down in an effort to ride up ,,,,equaled about 1/16 of the hike lol. !!

The jump is the cat track... It's like a step down kinda.

Yea if you do it right there is a ton of compression at the bottom but if you make it with speed its seriously like maybe 40 steps up the steep stuff and then its just flat across the top. The best shit is dropping the inner bowl. The rim turns into a huge natural spine.

That sounds exactly right. Steep drop. I got some speed bit not enough to take me too far up. Hell it might have been close to 40 steps but it felt like 500. Lol. I need to drop 10 lbs.

Where is the inner bowl youre talking about?

At the top you go left instead of right.

I see. However we didn't climb the cone today. We were going to, but the summit opened up. Again, however, I missed the summit trip by 5 minutes. I was with a group who was going to hit a couple more runs before heading to summit. While they did that I was going to have a couple beers with some friends at the lodge. Two minutes after I sit down my ' more adventurous' buddies had already caught the all of a sudden open lift to summit. Damn!

By this time I had just sat down and from there on out the beer took over....ok ok,,,, my legs were talking too. I didn't make the summit.

I did see some very cool avy control before they opened , at 2pm. The bombs they were setting off were sending huge piles of snow down the mnt. Controlled avy....it was beautiful.

All in all a great second day. I got first tracks from top of matin to the bottom of NW chair, then another set of awesome tracks from top of NW to the bottom again. ..... Like surfing,,,, pure pow.

My legs are butter.....and beer taste good. Green beer!

Happy st patty day!,!
