PNW Level 1 Avy Course

So a bunch of buddies and I are looking at taking a Level 1 avy course near Seattle. I think we've narrowed it down to the Northwest Mountain School class January 11th-13th. I just wanted to open it up to anyone else who'd like to join us. PM me if you're interested, we'll be renting a cabin between Leavenworth and Stevens for the class.

It's official, we've booked Jan 11-13 for our class. Bump for anyone who's looking to take a level 1 class this season.

Good on you. I'd just stay in Leavenworth since your classroom sessions are there. Plus it gives you the advantage for getting food, happy hour, Icicle Brew house...

^^That's a good call. We were just looking at cabins between Stevens and Leavenworth, but it's probably easier if we just stay in town for the first two days of the class.

I'm pretty stoked for the class. I'll have to get out and practice my skinning techniques once the snow starts to fall. I'm about halfway done with Brice Tremper's book, probably finish it on the beaches of Mexico next week, haha.

Is this still open for others to join in. I'd like to see if my son and I can join in. Thanks.

^^Yeah for sure, the more the merrier! Head to www.mountainschool.com. For details on the class, we booked Jan 11th-13th.

It's pretty easy commuting to the pass from Leavenworth for your on snow time. It is generally speaking the last day and then you are just headed home afterward anyway. Maybe after some brews at the Foggy Goggle...

The site suggests the required equipment is ski's or split board. I do not own either. I am strictly a boarder. Will I need to rent a split board?

Thanks for that. Gonna hit the late December one.

Often times Snowshoes are acceptable. A splitboard rental is not that expensive either. It is up to the course provider if slow, errr, snowshoes are okay for their class. If where they hold their on snow portion is the spot I think it is, it's a relatively easy hike, but semi long. The glide and float of skis may make it a lot easier. Plus, a split board really is the best way for a snowboarder to get around that pass. Lots of trees, branches, and stuff to snag a board on your back. That is not fun to deal with in the best of conditions.

Skinning is easy. Pretty much like having snowshoes. I'm sure the terrain you'll navigate won't be difficult at all.
