Default Bestest Day Ever

I'm new to this site and I'm totally diggin it, I'm 46 years old and have been boarding for 26+ years, competitively and all mtn. Even after all these years have passed, I still get super stoked to talk boarding. So I thought this would be a cool thread to start, so I'm starting it ................

After 26 years it was very hard to think of the "Bestest Day Ever". Myself and two of my long time riding bro's planned another Cat trip to Peak Adventures in Cataldo Idaho. We stopped by Steve's shop to ask how the conditions were going to be for our trip the next day, his wife said "killer", they had 12" fresh, 25 degree's and bluebird conditions tomorrow. Peaks website guarantee's you a min of 8 runs, but we were able to lap 17, we had a group of three skiers that only made 6-7 runs and were done, but Steve said we arent going down to the cars til everyone is done, so Steve ripped up the entire day with us.

Untouched 12+ inches of fresh, bluebird and haul ass GS powder turns.

That was my Bestest Day

Pfft. that's easy. Jan 26 2012. I know this because I said in my blog that it was the Best. Day. Ever.

It doesn't take much. Just a lot of new snow and an almost-empty mountain. Under those conditions you'd have to really work at it to screw it up.

The best day ever would have to be the first time I ever went. I was 12 years old and my mom took me up to Sierra to learn how to snowboard. I took some lessons in the morning, and by the afternoon I was going down the easy runs at Sierra. I just had a total blast.

Hard to decide between these two.

In 2011, I think January, Whistler had huge storms that kept the alpine closed for 5 days straight, puking snow non stop the whole time. They finally reopened it on a weekday when the storm died down and it was sunny and clear skies, and I was waiting in line to be on one of the first chairs up into the alpine. After some ridiculous waist deep laps, we headed over to 7th heaven and the new snow was so deep that the avalanche caution signs over near lakeside bowl were burried, you could only see the half of the top line of text on the sign with the rope being under the snow.

In March 2012 Grouse got almost 80 cms of snow in 48 hours (after snowing lots for the whole week prior), and there was honestly about 5 people on the mountain until 2-3 in the afternoon. I felt bad for the lifty working that day. Even on a small mountain like Grouse, that day I triggered a few snow slides leaving small shelves behind like what you see on avalanches.

We don't get nearly enough of those days on the wet coast.

easy, one of back to back days, dec 17 and 18, 1995 or 96...Santa Barbara...huge storm out of Alaska moved south to project massive surf perfectly into our little south facing nook.

One of the days was bigger and cleaner, but more crowded, however on the other day, I was out at Rincon, one of the top 3 most popular surf spots on the mainland, and it was crowded as usual, but the winds were going off making it choppy and hard to maintain any sort of position in the lineup. For some reason or another, on that day, 100+ people struggled and battled the elements and for the most part got owned; while I walked way up the point, paddled straight out and just caught wave after double and triple overhead wave all by myself until I was spent.
