We're pretty early into spring - is it usual for them to be closing lifts?

From the Stevens Pass website:
Quote:
Spring Operations:
During the quieter spring season, Monday-Thursday we will be running 6 lifts as follows, conditions permitting:
Everyday: Hogsback, Skyline, Kehr's Chair and Daisy.
Additionally on:
POW Days: Southern Cross/Double Diamond & 7th Heaven.
Groomer Days: Tye Mill and Jupiter.

Weekends we will be running full operations, conditions permitting.

^^Not sure where you're finding that on the website. Their typical "spring operation" would be after April 14th. I know they're running limited ops right now because of the massive amount of rain we've gotten recently.

So, is there any truth to the limited chair operation for spring season ?

Stevens Pass never ceases to amaze me, the difference between how Duncan at BAKER runs the resort and the clowns at Stevens is night and day.

For the last 15 years, Stevens has done nothing but take stuff away, it used to be if you bought a season pass you got free skikeep, the lift ticket price has gone up $2 every year since, charge you to park in the upper lot (weekends/holidays), took three nights out of the week for night riding, the lockers used to be .50 cents (now $5, with a debt swipe machine , that half the time dont work) and now shutting down half of the chairs for spring operations, whats next Stevens ? I will always consider BAKER my home mtn, even though I haven't ridden there in 6-7 years, the fact that Duncans outlook is to make it more fun for his customers, allowing snowboards from day one and not nickel and dimeing people to death. I ride Stevens now and have had a midweek pass for 15+ years, I've made Stevens my home mtn strictly out of necessity (kids to pick-up from school), they've always been about the money and not the love of the sport/outdoors, but I guess when they are turning people around on weekends due to no parking, they really dont give a shit.

P.S. are we going to get at least one more storm before the end of the season ?

WTF? If I'm reading that right, Stevens plans to close the backside to non-double black skiers on powder days during the week? That is pretty goddamn stupid.

Yeah, the $5 locker charge sucks. And it's $9 if your bag isn't fairly small. If renting, you probably can't fit your boots and a bag in there. Never seen them not work though.

stickz's info was right, new seasons passes are for sale. They increased the price unless you buy before May 5. Anyone buying at the renewal rate later than May 5 but before November is paying more than they did last year. They did decrease the non-renewal rate quite a bit. But PNW holders could get renewal pricing anyway, and that is free with REI or $10 without, so didn't make sense to begin with.

Edit: It doesn't actually say that buying the pass early will work for this year anywhere that I can see. Hope they didn't change their mind on that. Gonna go up this weekend sometime so we'll see.

^^Complain much? Good God.

First off, we're lucky there is a spring operation at Stevens. Prior to last season, there wasn't. Last year's spring operation was even less if I remember correctly. Baker doesn't have a spring operation at all so there's no comparison.

Turning people away when lots are full? What else are they supposed to do? Parking on Hwy 2 is illegal. If there's nowhere else to park, there's not much else Stevens can do. They started using the Yodelin lot and busses this year for extra capacity.

Prices on everything have gone up because operating costs have gone up. There's nothing management can do but pass it along to the consumer. You can't expect an operation like Stevens to take a hit, not pass it along to the consumer, and expect them to survive. It's business, deal with it.

You can't compare Stevens (or any other hill) to Baker. They're completely different animals. Baker has kept a much lower overhead over the years and being privately owned they've been able to keep their prices down. And good for them.

^Yeah well it's not "spring season" yet, and they're already closing down the backside during the week.

Yeah, because of the massive amount of rain they've gotten. No surprise there.

ok the season pass for next yr is good for this yr. I have a friend who works in admin . on pow days southern cross is open so you can ride single black diamond all day. and if it's not a pow day by lunch those runs are fucked anyway. groomer days Ty mill and Jupiter are open which again kinda works cause without powder southern cross runs can get bumpy fast.
