Big Mountain, Whitefish Montana USA...March 19, 2013

officially we have 12" new in the last 3 days...unofficially it all blew in and piled up in places, fortunately some of the steep and gnar zones...then today, the sun came out, fully epic and unexpected pow day...14 degrees only too

to give some perspective, not many people see this, we have had maybe 5 sunny days this winter...

looking north into the Cabinet Range and Canada

looking East into Glacier National Park, Lodi Peak (ten minute sidecountry hike) is in the foreground...

Glacier N.P.

East Rim...still looking pretty good at 1pm!

Lodi Peak and Evans Heaven, from the runout of NBC

some noname billygoat zone i love, and apprently i'm alone...so killer in this part, the pic just doesnt do it justice..

another in billygoat zone...

and some mellowdeep glades to end the day...Cal's Country

rad thing about Big..theres only 2 busy weeks, other than that there's nobody, so the stashes stay stashed for days, this whole week is gonna be killer, more snow weds supposedly

anyone headed this way, pm me, i'll give you the ambassador's tour..

Fantastic!! My wife is from Montana. I have been out there many times but only in the summer:dizzy: I friend just invited me to Whitefish next year. He showed me some photos just like this from the last time he was there. They take a train from Minneapolis and rent a house there for a week. It looks incredible:yahoo:

I haven't discussed this with him yet but I would like to get a few opinions. What skill level would you have to have to snowboard in this type of area in Whitefish?

not sunny, but oh damn it was good, 5 inches minimum of sugar snow on top of all the pow...extremely light, pow-carveable, and forgiving combo for landings...crazyfun day (can you see the grin?)...3-5 more expected tonight, thats kinda the way it is here, we don't get the HUGE dumps, i think 9" (officially) was the most this year in one night, but we will get a week of 3, then 5, 3, 2 7,2..like that

pics or it didnt happen!

from my road heading up, the neighbor's longhorns as a bonus

haskills from above...clearly popular run (not)

...and from below

Bighorn Woods..a few secs later this chute werent so pretty, lol

Bighorn (upper center in the distance) from the Chair..this is the backside, Chair 7...this part is rugged...full of natural obstacles, mini-chutes and rocks

Lodi peak from Bighorn

Haskills...sometimes i feel so all alone

anther epic day, bonus sun for about 2 hours and sugar/pow....another 3 expected tonight...we are finishing strong it would seem, 16 days to go in the season

NBC is so fun, i try to find a new way in every time, some of the entries are frikkn hairball....here is the view up from the bottom, ive hit all that stuff on the far right side of the pic

another way in, all those lines on the far wall are me from previous runs...one of the hairy entries is strait above those lines

the big city does have a few advantages, more culture, art and concerts are the first things that come to mind...disregarding borders, Calgary is actually the closest big city to me...but ive gotten used to the smalltown life, actually pretty much a hermit, LOL

don't want to make it out like Big Mtn is gnar like another Jackson or something, and thankfully it's not, or we would be overrun like Jackson Hole has been... great lil town, superfun "little" Big Mtn

big glow on the valley floor is whitefish lake, surrounded by the town...

yeh Bz really isnt too far, beautiful drive too if you come up Swan Valley..in summer ive done it in 5.5 hrs

seems like we are on a different snow pattern than you guys, possible it could be bad there and good here, or vice-versa...i was tempted as hell to bolt down there this winter when you guys got 40" in 2 days! my friends down there said it was beyond epic

We rented a 42' motorhome and road tripped to Grand Targee, Jackson, Big Mtn and finished of at Schweitzer, we were lucky, every day we rode we had fresh at each resort. We had a killer time at Big Mtn, we were there two days and had some killer powder turns. Have to get over there again, since our annual cat trip was canceled , due to the state of Idaho shutting then done
