We've got a new sub-forum! Fantastic! So who all boards out here in Oregon? I'm wanting to hit Hood when the season starts, but this is my first year in OR. Once the season starts (before early May I hope
) I'm going to need some tips on the best places/runs around here.

I know. I keep checking the web cams thinking I'll be surprised, but it's always just brown. I can see Hood from where I live and it looks so white from here, hehe.
Also, whoops on posting before the forum was even totally set up. |

Being my first year out here I was really hoping for something epic. I hit Steven's Pass last year and there were feet and feet of fluffy powder. It was like being in heaven. I snowboarded until my legs refused to support me and I just kept falling down from sheer exhaustion. I was hoping for that this year as well. I'm not a patient man...

Hello all!
I am so new to this sport it is scary! I have lived in Oregon all my life and have never set foot on the side of a mountain. After a year where my wife took off, I decided to start doing things in life that I have never done before, and wanted to try. So where does a 39 year old first time snowboarder go for their first time. Going to try it by myself, so only strangers will laugh at me. One of the reasons I have never gone is the fact that I have too many expensive hobbies, and I figured I would love snowboarding too much, haha. So, any advice is greatly appreciated!

Also chiming in from Oregon my entire life here, this is my 2nd year with a season pass to Meadows and 3rd riding seriously. It looks like we are finally getting into winter mode here in Oregon, getting snow this week and even some snow all the way down here in the Valley near Portland this weekend... As for your questions, I would check out Meadows when it opens up. They have some great instructors, and its actually pretty cheap. You can get the 3X Package which is 3 days of 2 hour instruction, rentals, 2 days worth of bunny slope passes, and one day of all mountain passes. That by far is the best deal, i mean an all day mountain pass is 55 bucks alone...with the 3 days of rentals + classes its a real steal...

Thanks for the quick reply. I live in Brownsville, so I am a bit south, near the Albany area. I will look into the package you mentioned. I have a sinking feeling I am going to get addicted to this.... Only thing is, I will be damned if I can find anyone else down here to share the same interest!

You can also get some pretty cheap lodging up here if you dont mind budget stuff..like i was looking in that same pamphlet and theres a Alpine hotel that has hostel beds for i think 20 bucks a night..its gonna be nothing special but atleast a place to sleep if you plan to stay for more than a day so you dont gotta drive all the way back.

Well, if you ever want to head up when someone else is there (who won't laugh at you) let me know. I'm always looking for more people to board with. Would be nice to get a group of Oregonians to board together.
