Off-Topic: Skateboarding in summer?

I know there are quite a few old-timers like myself (45 y/o) who snowboard and frequent the forums. Do any of you guys who still get at it on the snow at this stage in life also skateboard at all? I haven't been on a skateboard in 20+ years, I think the last board I owned was probably a Vision Mark Gonzalez if that gives you any idea. (Edited to add: I did buy a re-release a couple years ago of the "Vision" Mark Gonzalez to have as a momento of that time... when I was young and cool... but I've never ridden it.)

Anyway, a buddy of mine who is in construction and also skates just built a mini-half in his backyard. The temptation is running hot and heavy to give it a go. I've spent most of the morning surfing online looking at skateboards. Times have changed and boards/wheels sure are different now. Glad to see Indy is still round though. Ah man, it has been a long, long time. Sooo... let's hear from the old guys, anyone still skate?

I stopped skating 10 years ago (I'm 37) after I rung my bell on the sidewalk. Both hands in pockets and got halted by one of those spiky ball tree things. It was all head and shoulder, more shoulder. I shot back to my feet ran for my board and laughed in shock at what just happened. I walked the rest of the way home and when I got home I decided that my body wanted a break (for life).

Now, if I had a friend with a mini ramp, I'd be all over that. Include beers and I'd be pushing children out of the way to ride it. I'd definitely rock a helmet, probably knee pads, too.

My old school setup would be: John Lucero deck , independents and bullet 66's.

And I would go down in a blaze of mediocre glory.

Dude, I'm 33, but I've skated all my life. Get a deck and get your mini-shred on. Mini pipes are the most fun thing there is to skate IMO, and backyard mini's are the bees knees. Hard to beat beers, bbq, and a backyard mini ramp.

Pretty much everyday! I'm not as aged as you fellas but I hope to keep at it as long as I can!

I'll always skateboard, I love it.

I used to skateboard, haven't really done it in years though, since high school. There's no good skate spots around here, all the terrain is so rough, and they're all so tiny, you can hardly do ANYTHING.Ever since the parks all closed, there's really no where to skate.

i'm 39 and got back on a skateboard a few months ago having not skated for about 20+ years.

Gonzalez is still at it... check out the Krooked Zig Zagger deck for a shape that is somewhere in between the decks that we used to know and modern popsicle shapes.

i have totally forgotten how much fun it is just to cruise around. it's even more fun now that i snowboard. in fact, the main motivation was to find some way to get my fix in between winters.

I will be 52 yo this week. Skating for the past 39 years (snowboarding for the past 35). In fact, I own a skateboard/longboard/snowboard company and design/shape all the boards myself.

Skateboarding compliments snowboarding so well for me. I get to ride sideways year round. I could not imagine not doing both and really hope to be riding and skating until I cannot physically do it anymore.

Grab a skateboard and get back into it MeanJoe! Even more so If you have access to a nice mini. There are plenty of reissues that will help you get back into it with a familiar feeling, if you want to.

There are also plenty of possibilities with longboards. They can offer a carving and speed feeling very very similar to snowboarding.

I got back into slalom racing 10 years ago, and that is what I do most often as it is easier on my knees, and body in general, as there are less bails. :)

Is there any specific skateboard that is more like a snowboard? I was looking at woodward site that had a snowboard with wheels on it, but could not find it any where

I'm too old / too much of a wimp to skate these days

I'd consider cruising around / long boarding, but the pavement hurts too much when you fall to be jumping stairs, rails etc

road rash is so 1990's
