The more commercial a gym is, the more douche bags go there. If you go to a planet fitness, ballys, LA fitness, Total Fitness, etc., expect tons of douches.

Also, nobody serious about strength training cares about what anyone can curl.

On the opposite end of the spectrum. The more "hardcore" the gym is the more oddballs will be in attendance. ie guys showing up with buckets full of rocks to lift, guys running from one end of the gym floor to the other with plates tied to their waist dragging on the floor, etc etc

This. As far as strength training goes it's pretty useless. If anything you should concentrate on your triceps.

The gyms that allow that are the shit lol. Unfortunately around me the closest hole in the wall hardcore gym is about a 45 min drive one way, so I have to settle for a middle of the spectrum World Gym. It has it's douche bags (not nearly the amount that you'd find at those LA Fitness type of gyms) but the amount of regulars and the respect the regulars all have for each other and the equipment keeps the douchers in check. One of my rules of thumb as far as picking a gym is "if a gym doesn't allow chalk, find a new gym"

Very often since late in my Junior year in high school. I should have started earlier, as I have Pectus Excavatum (condition where the sternum grows in and forces the rib cage out), but it's always better late than never. Combining weightlifting with running in summer and snowboarding in winter, I should finally be in good physical shape for once in my life Already benching 125 lbs last time I maxed, 2 weeks ago, and I have a strength training class every week day.

keep at it G33. I think genetics are the biggest player in anyones game for physical prowess.... Keep it up just to stay in shape, not to impress anyone with your max weight. for snowboarding I would focus more on leg workouts and core/abdominal workouts.... make chest workouts a minor part of your routine unless you just really want to work on it...

The chest workouts are really for overall strength, and my chest condition. I'm not trying to impress anyone either, just myself. I couldn't bench 15 pounds before, so it's a big confidence booster

Back to shoulders again today..

I've had a few great cardio sessions, but also managed to get in some arms and push ups and pull ups over the past many days.

Headed back for a little cardio and stretching shortly.
