Ya, same wood. It is a beautiful wood to make guitars from, high variety in color and highly flamed. Mine was cut from the same log as their Exodus guitar that was built a couple years ago. My looks similar but a slightly different body style without the neck inlay.

It is more of a neck issue than a string issue. If you drop it down permanently you'll want to have the neck tension adjusted, but if it is just to mess around on every once in a while it won't hurt anything.
