Hiking!

Any avid hikers out there? Figured I'd start a thread for people to share some of their cool hikes in.

Here's some pics from a cross-country hike I did last weekend with some friends. This is up in the Selkirk mountain range above Sandpoint, ID near Canada.

What the pics don't show, is the part of the hike where the trail we were supposed to follow back to the car was completely missing/overgrown. We bushwacked straight into the forest valley until 12 at night, using a compass and landmarks for direction. Guess where we came out of the forest? 10 yards from my car. Fucking crazy.

Lot's of boulder climbing

Beehive Lake

Top of the first ridge

Little Beehive lake below, was insanely blue!

Traverse path, dropping over the far ridge into Harrison Lake

Traversing the ridge, last time I came up here we climbed that big peak in the background

Gazing from the ridge.

We slid down quite a few snowfields, fun stuff.

This snowpack up against northern exposure was still about 10 feet deep.

Nice!

Hiking La Plata (a 14k' peak) on Sunday. Will do a little TR style when I get back.

We did Elbert, CO's tallest 14'er last month:

Chloe Dominates 14ers

Mike's Suby owning the 4wd road (or was it vice versa?)

He took this picture proud at the trailhead, only to return from the summit to see a Nissan Versa also there lolz.

Most of the way up, with the Sawatch range behind Mike and the dogs to the south.

Chloe is a German Shorthair Pointer, ya she's fucken gorgeous.

Cole is a Belgian Malinois, rescued as a stray by Mike. He'll eat anything, including field mice, voles and marmots if he catches them!

Here they are on their first one (mine too!) last year on Pikes Peak.

Mini TR: La Plata 14,336'

Left after work from Evergreen around 12-12.30, arrived at the trailhead about 3. Made the mistake of driving up the access road that is not an access road for about 20 minutes in the dark making sure to bang up the underside of my Civic for no reason.

Then we proceeded to get lost in the dark about 1000' feet from the TH because we didn't notice the giant metal and wood bridge just to our left, we were having way to much fun looking for nothing to the right. Mystery solved the trail proved to be solid all the way until about a mile from the summit where large talus made routefinding difficult (I recommend the 4legged types for indentured routefinders).

Mike and Cole by headlamp. (we did about 2/3 of the ascent in the dark, however the last 1/3 is twice as difficult)

Rare clouds and weather at dawn (in CO) provided a great view of Ellingwood ridge as the sun rose behind it from La Plata's SW ridge.

Moment of truth, about 45 min after dawn, mile, mile and 1/4 to go we hear a peal of thunder.

Went for it, clouds thinned, blue sky came out and it turned into just another perfect day in Colorado! Views from the summit:

9.5miles rt, 4500' vertical gain. 2 soreass legs.

Silver Dollar Lake is one of my favorite local hikes. It's not long at all. Easy hike.
