Made a couple new toys today

First I made a longboard, nothing fancy just another piece of my old tv stand.

Then I stumbled across this little video Concrete snowboarding- "bigair megaramp mini and pipe" - - YouTube. Figured that looks pretty fun, so I slapped one of those together too.

I just sold my Freebord a couple months ago, so I don't have Sky-hooks anymore.
So I put some real bindings on a piece of plywood, haven't gone down a hill yet but just fartin' around in front of my house & it seems like it will work pretty good.

I'll get some pics up shortly.

Fuck pics. I want video. Just make sure someone else has your login first, cuz I'm pretty sure you're gonna die.

Well I tried it down one hill, the only one close to me. It's not that steep but it was wicked.

I never skateboarded as a kid, I only just started longboarding 2 years ago.
So I can't ollie a normal skateboard, never owned one.

I've tried before & can do the motion but never actually land on the board, so there is no way I would ever attempt to ollie up a curb. I'd eat shit 100%, no doubt in my mind.

I also can't do 180% slides & end up riding switch. I can do a Coleman to a stop.
That's the highlight of my repertoire. So all I can do is, go fast, carve & stop.

Down this little dinky hill tonight I was able to jump on & off curbs parallel to me while going down it, as well as 180's.

I was going pretty slow & I'm sure if I had recorded it, I would laugh with ya, but for me, I can't do that on a regular longboard or skateboard.

So It was magical, all of the sudden I could do jumps up & down any curb, instantly snowboarding took over. I found myself scoping out the best line tryin' to maximize my ride, basically do all the basic shit I always wished I could.

So I'm off to find a bigger hill then maybe the skate park, I've only been there once & never skated so not sure if it has lights or not?

Ya, ya, I'll bring my camera, Don't plan on killing myself though.
I might wipe out once or twice, but I don't plan on doin' that either. It sucks.

It has a bowl sorta thing there, in my head I can see myself being able to pump it & maybe get above the lip.
Maybe, or close to the lip. I don't know, seems a bit much, but that's my goal.

Predictions? What do ya think, never skateboarded, can't ollie.

Fire away, this should be good.

Yep, you gonna die.

I skateboarded as a kid, but quit and then picked up snowboarding about 12 years later. A couple summers ago, I thought I'd pick up a longboard to play around on during the summer.

Bad move. I was way too accustomed to speed on a snowboard. First time on the the longboard I head over to a mild hill and hop on. I'm riding and everything is going awesome. I get to the bottom of the hill and I'm riding it out. I think I'm going slow enough to step off and run it out. Wrong. I step off, make it two, maybe three steps then realize this shit ain't gonna work and tuck and barrel roll it. It felt like I was going super slow but I wasn't. I repeat that scenario two more times before accepting that my concept of speed on a board has been too biased by snowboarding to safely adapt to longboarding. I'm sure I could've made the transition, but I was gonna end up fucking myself up in the process.

I predict exciting stories.

Please proceed with all caution thrown to the wind.

I can't imagine being stuck in those bindings and eating shit, that would be horrible.

It looks cool, but don't crash, ever. ever

hktrdr 08-12-2012 10:53 AM

Are you going to ride your longboard off a chairlift? Or what would be the equivalent?

Tried for years and just cant do it...:dunno: A few years ago, I bought a mountain board and it has binding straps on it and finally, I can pop off of curbs or over rocks on old logging roads (it has big rubber tires and a hand brake). I think of all the hair brained ideas that Timmy has come up with, this one is pretty cool.......

The only downside though as you are all pointing out is the inability to bail. I would be wearing pads, a helmet and maybe full leathers because when in your mid 40`s, crashing on pavement really really really hurts!!!

Ya, you can't honestly say that doesn't look like fun, & not bein' able ollie a regular board, this opens up a whole new game.
Not my hair brained idea, I'm just jumpin' on the band wagon.
& @ 37, the bails feel pretty much the same I do believe.

Well I packed up some shit & went on a cruise but I don't have insurance on my truck right now, so I had a backpack with elbow & knee pads, a 2 liter, camera, tripod & finally that tank strapped to it. It weighed @ least 40 lbs.

I don't really live by any hills & the skate park is about ten miles from my house. After going about 4 miles the other direction to get to McDonalds, then gorging, I didn't feel that much like completing the journey.

But don't you worry all you haters & naysayers, I'll get me some footage.
I really want to go to the skate park, but during the day it is just packed.
Hopefully by the end of the day I'll have something.

I'm pretty sure when you see how a guy who can't even ollie up a curb can rip on this thing, I won't be the only one who slaps one together.

Really disappointed in the lack of hate mail here kids, I thought for sure when I got back home there would be pages & pages.
I thought I set you all up pretty good, even left an invite.
It makes me laugh, the funny shit you guys try & burn me with. It doesn't faze me & honestly I think it's hilarious.

hktrdr, Ouch, that was a well thought out burn. That one should stay with me for a while.:cheeky4:

Yes. I love when people make shit like this and I cant wait to see the video. But dude I'm not gonna lie, that wood in the first pic looks shonky as fuck. Are you sure it's not gonna bust in half?

You called it, but I actually screwed a piece of 1x4 hardwood to the underside between the trucks. That's what fucked me!

For some reason, I didn't even bother riding it around for a bit, down a hill, nothin'.
I found a set of stairs, figured it looked not to bad, 4 stairs then about a 4 foot landing then 4 more stairs. But it was super dark, buy only @ the stairs. So I set up my camera, everywhere sucked. I couldn't set it up too far from where I was cause it was in the shitty end of town, lots of thieves, druggies & hookers.
Only @ night for some reason, during the day it's a Home Hardware with a doctors office next door, completely diff after dark.

Any way, the screws I used to fasten the 1x4 were a cunt hair to long. I ended up screwing them in on an angle to compensate.
One of the screws, I think, was going into my shitty Firefly bindings. So I backed it out a turn.
There was maybe 1/3 of the screw head sticking out on an angle, 2mm @ most.
Made the first set of stairs fine, but with only about a four foot landing area before the next set of stairs & a board close to three feet long. My front truck rolled off the top step before I could jump, the one screw I backed out a tiny bit was the first thing to touch the top stair.
My board instantly came to a dead stop. I did not, I launched into a dive only sideways off the top stair.
I was just finishing the jumping motion, I was literally a fraction of a second too slow. So I still got all the height, but dropped like a stone.

I'm sure you will be quite amused. I couldn't just pack it in with that being my only footage, so I walked it off for about 1/2 an hour & forced myself to give it one more try.
Went across the street to a diff set of stairs without a landing, just 3 stairs & a clean run out.
This time it worked, but the board snapped. So I got a whole 3 min on it before I broke it.
I'm gonna make another one & this time I'm gonna ride it & get used to it before I do any jumps.

So here is the successful one https://vimeo.com/47491053

I recorded the wipe out too, but there is a lot of blank footage in the recording, so I need to edit it but Windows movie maker keeps crashing & it is really dark. I can fuck with the brightness on my pc to make it watchable, but if I upload it to Vimeo, I don't think you guys will be able to adjust the brightness. So any ideas on how to make it work?
