While we're on the topic of longboards, check out an edit that I made with a couple of friends last November.

If anyone's from the PNW and wants to go shredding, hit me up with a PM!

2nd half of the vid is some nice footage, that's the kind of riding a want to get to..
Damn!!! The riding in the last half of this vid looks sweet! He's swingin' that board around like I saw in those "Freeride" board vid's! ...And just FLYIN' down that hill!! Didn't know you could ride a longboard like that!

Gotta say tho,.. as I watched and drooled jealously, I envisioned my Old Ass pickin' a LOT of gravel outta the same!!!!!! The only thing I really remember from my one and only skate board attempt as a very young kid was that when the skate wheel encountered a relatively small pebble,... Fuckin' thing just STOPPED!!!! After which I spent a week doing gravel extraction!!!

Looks like a fukin' blast, but maybe I'll stick to Snow!! (...Yeah yeah, I know!! ...Pussy!)

thinking of getting a longboard -- thanks cassmt for the inspiration! let me know how that mini shaka rides, it looks like something i'd be into. i used to have a 13 ply, 33 inch board, that was super hard, with front truck mounted all the way up, a longer tail and no concave... i didn't really like it so much, and i've stuck with the short/street board for... almost 17 years now!

i haven't been riding much because i bought a pair of low indy's, and the bushings are just too hard... the trucks are too low profile with the shorter kingpin to put on aftermarket bushings... so i swapped the big/bottom bushing with a super soft doh doh top bushing, (so riding on two top bushings) and i absolutely LOVE this setup now.

it's really soft for turn initiation, and gets harder toward the wheels, so i now have a suuuuper squirelly board that i haven't even had one wheel bite on. it makes flip tricks way easier, and rides amazing.

i know this doesn't have anything to do with longboarding, but if anything, mess around with bushings and find your ideal combo. in 17 years, i've never been this stoked on my skateboard...

been doing a lot of reading, forum browsing (silverfishlongboard forum), trying to get educated...everything points how absolutely critical bushings are...testing different hardness for different disciplines, riding harder bushings on the bottom, softer cones on top, etc

this Bushing Selector page/app is one to bookmark...

Bushing Selector - MotionBoardshop.com

as far as how the minishaka rides, i think its frikkn amazing, but i really have nothing to compare to, i still ride it like a snowboard, and for that its great, carving and downhilling, starting to learn to get ready to really want to slide, lol. i think snowboarding helps in one big way: its not scary, ive gone pretty damn fast on it, but not nearly the normal snowboard speeds, so, its all ok...from what i'm gathering in comments, it's a superb entry-level setup, good all around for the beginner/intermediate...room to upgrade and customize
