Any wakeboarders? Thinking of trying it out

I see No Cal has a cable park open now. Its my last weekend out here and I was thinking about trying some wakeboarding. Any pros or cons compared to going out in a boat? Is it a decent experince compared to snowboarding?

Say what:icon_scratch: I can't believe you just asked that question:unsure:

That's all I have to say about that.

Have you rode wake before?

The pros and cons would be; getting up at the park is way easier(dock start over deep start) the water is smooth, no cross chop or wake to deal with. The downside is that the cable feels springy, tends to pull you over your edges. Hard to explain if you haven't ridden before. Kind of a slingshot effect that will bite you in the ass at the wrong time ;) Go for it, you'll have a blast.

Oh yeah and since there's no wake at the park it's not REALLY wakeboarding :P

it's closer to spring slush surfing than to "normal" snowboarding
Family bought a wake boat 'n' stuff. Hubby, me and other snowboarders learnd to handle the board pretty soon. Skiers had far more problems. You'll be fine in a park to do the first tries, but uhm... wakeboarding without wake... you'll miss the funniest part!

In two weeks, I'll spend a week Holiday on the Canaries to learn Kite-Surfing :yahoo: Very curious, how this'll work... split attention between the board and the kite... I'm rather sure, the board won't be too big a problem, but the kite... oh the kite

You don't dock start behind a boat? I always do (we all do at the cottage whether wakeboarding or water skiing)...

I don't do enough wakeboarding, usually only one weekend a summer these days. It's fun but to me nothing like snowboarding. I did take a lesson a while ago and they taught some pretty good tricks.. Hold the handle with both palms facing down, and push the rope down to your waist. It'll help you pull from the middle, make it easier on your back, and should help you get more air!

This is NOT the right technique! Love the hat on my dad...

Trying to crank hard to clear the wide wake behind my dads boat...

I think I'll make it!

Poutanen, those pics are brilliant! You look great on the second one, gaining speed from the curve and then the classical Oooooops moment  Thanks for sharing

BTW I foresee an other occasion to discuss stances/angles :giggle:

Oh, and yes, the hat is gorgeous!

Getting up on a wakeboard is supposed to be the hardest part, but it was easy for me. Even though I can get up every time I still have no idea what it is I'm supposed to do when I'm up! Once I figured out you lean back more than a snowboard I quit faceplanting though, lol.

timmytard 04-25-2013 02:16 PM

I think I've only been wakeboarding 2wice.

But I was just given a wakeboard with bindings, so hopefully this year I'll get to do it a lot more:dunno:

Only problem... You guessed it, no fuckin' boat.

Seen a video clip somewhere of some dudes who had made a zip-line across a lake. They were using water skies though, it wasn't working that well for them.:giggle: The water skies didn't have enough surface area & their zip-line had to sharp of an angle.

So... If you haven't figured it out yet?:dunno: I think that's gonna be my summer project.
Zip-line wakeboarding. Fuck ya.

I have all the gear & the knowledge to make one. Just have to find a good place to set one up.

If it works as well as I think it will,:yahoo: my zip-line snowboard park shouldn't be too far down the road.
