If they live anywhere close to Bern, and If you come in summer, you have to do some Aareb÷÷tle. You'll never meet as many totally relaxed and chilling Swiss as at this occasion. It's not rafting, it's floating. Only at the first kilometer some paddeling is necessary to negotiate a bit of (very mild) "wild water", then the river gets tame for 25km and you can take a swim, mock around, take a rest at a river bank to BBQ or just lie in the boat and whatch the scenery go by. After every bend you get to look at different mountains, some of them having snow all year round. The water comes from the glaciers of the Berner Oberland with mountains like the Jungfrau. Some say chilly, some refreshing, but it's pristine anyway, drinking quality. And suddenly you're in the middle of the capital without even recognizing it cause you're still surrounded by trees but if you look up, you'll see the government building

If you don't have the time to do the entire boat trip from Thun to Bern, take at least a swim in the Aare in Bern. AWESOME!!! - Marzili Aareschwimmen, Bern Traveller Reviews - TripAdvisor

Great, thanks for the tips! It will probably be a once in a lifetime trip for me. But I thought going snowboarding would be a once in a lifetime thing too, and it's still something new every time, but I can't imagine never going again!!

Deac, I have plenty of water to float here in my state, but most of it resembles chocolate milk more than water!

Beautiful landscape Love the one with the daughter (?) at the lake. Your kids still like hiking/camping or at this teenage stage they begin to think it sucks?

Lol, that's my wife. She is just tiny, We call them spinners. My son is in the smokin hoodie he is 13. We have a 20 year old daughter too but she doesn't live with us.

My son likes it because the hiking keeps him in better shape for snowboarding, daughter is lazy and hated it as a teenager.
