Fly Fishing

Been hiking and fishing all over northern New Mexico this year. I'm stoked to finally have the time to do it. All of the rivers have been fishing well, namely the Red River, Cimarron River, Rio Pueblo, and of course the San Juan. I have a few secret spots as well...

Haven't made it to Chama yet, would like to get there and to the Embudo box, as well as a few other places.

Anyone tie or fish flies? This is the first year I'm fishing almost exclusively my own (all except elk hair flies, I hate tying that shit)... And the results have been amazing.

Fall fishing is coming in quick, from here on out it's amazing fishing until the snow falls!

i remember we talked in another thread about this, but I couldn't find it. I didn't have much luck in the Eel River when i went up north. I didn't have access to a car, and the area I was at was waaaaay too low. I only hooked up with one fish, was a pikeminnow and generally not too fun.

I'm the same with trout, I mostly tie and fish dries. I am starting to like streamers though, they seem to bring in the big browns.

I plan on hitting up the PNW soon, if not for a gig/music, then for the hell of it. If it's steelie season, I'm gonna hit you up for a guide trip! Would love to give that a try

I've been trout fishing since I could walk. I did a ton of fly fishing in my teens and twenties, but I've honestly fell out of the loop recently. One, I just don't have time to dedicate to it anymore and two, I've had way too much success spin fishing in the last few years. Most of my fishing these days is having a couple of hours to spare here and there and spin fishing just plain works better for that. I'd love to get back into fly fishing, but I'd need a whole new setup. The setup I grew up with was built for southern Appalachian trout fishing. Tiny, laurel choked streams. It's a 7' 4 weight that just gets overpowered here in CO. Any breeze and it's worthless. Well, here in CO, there's always some kind of breeze. I'd probably look for a 9' 5 weight for CO fishing. Maybe one day. I just have too much shit going on to get back into it right now.
