Ebay Users...Fees?

I've been dumping my old bike gear on Ebay for the past 2 months but haven't sold an item since before Thanksgiving. For the month of November they charged me $84 and some change...but I haven't sold anything in December and they're charging me $46 (with the convienience of auto debit from paypal). The 'invoice' they sent me doesn't have any line items to show what the charges are applied to. Am I missing something?

Are you sure it's actually ebay? Sounds like a natural for a scam.

Yeah you have a reserve on your items that is what they are charging you for even if you don’t sell it. You just have to put the starting price up so you can get around the fees. I sell on ebay all the time make sure you read what it says when you hit final post and how much it will cost for the listing, sounds like you also have auto relist.

Just got off the phone with customer service. Turns out that when I printed the Fed Ex labels (through Ebay), the costs that they gave me (even though the actual packages I sent were smaller, and lighter than what I entered) were only 'estimated' costs, so Fed Ex took it upon themselves to decide after the fact that I didn't pay what I should have for shipping and is now charging me the difference through Ebay. Ebay rep said they have no control over it. I told them maybe next time their estimates should be a little closer to actual costs. Especially considering I always enter an inch larger than the actual demensions of the package and add a few ounces in weight.

So watch out for the ebay/fed ex scam they're running.

If you get a certified scale that hooks up to your computer this helps. I have never had a problem with USPS or UPS. I don’t use FEDEX as I don’t have a drop store that near my house.

I do a ton of online selling every year and use USPS for almost everything when possible. Cheaper and faster. Love those flat rate boxes, have a whole room full of USPS boxes.

I have found that there are better means than eBay to sell these days. For bike parts try:
Pinkbike
Mtbr
Geartrade

I hated paying eBay and then paypal and then having to ship. Best of luck.

Ebay needs a competitor badly. Then they might actually work towards improving both their buying and selling experiences.

Pinkbike is the only place to bother posting parts for sale. I've tried MTBR and RideMonkey in the past, but their classifieds don't get even a fraction of the traffic and transactions that PB does. Coincidentally, bout to post up a Fox 40 for sale after this post.

Yeah I've got a few things on pinkbike right now. I've been double posting on PB and Ebay and Ebay def gets more hits...but it is a tough time of year do sell bike bits. I'm done with ebay at this point. I'll just post up on PB from now on and skip the hassle of fees and bullshit.
