1 obviously the first step would be gather supplies. (guns ammo food water rope explosives gasoline etc.)
2 then steal myself a hefty truck preferably with a battering ram or cow plow on the front. i would like a 8 seater, for me and my homies and all of the supplies.
3 broadcast a signal or locate a signal and then travel to find more survivors.
4 pick up a hot chick along the way (hopefully get some poon along this amazing journey)
and that weird obsession has to be true, its just fun to think about surviving a zombie apocalypse, although i would trip balls if it were to truly happen.

It is great fun thinking about it.

I would go straight to the mountains with 5 buddies and hopefully a couple sexy ladies, Guns, Food, Clothing, Rope, Binoculars, Axes, Mary Jane, So on.

Hike several days to a secluded area in the mountains, commence building a large tree fort. Hunt for our food, defend ourselves if need be.

World War Z by Max Brooks is another great zombie book.

Brooks plays the role of an agent of the United Nations Postwar Commission who published the novel in this fictional future after the United Nations left out much of his work from the official report, as it chose to focus on the facts figures of the war rather than the human aspects he included. Rather than a grand overview or a single perspective, World War Z is instead a collection of individual accounts in the form of interviews between the author and the characters. Taking place in the 2010s, the book charts a war against zombies from remote oddities, to a global pandemic to mass panic, and then to an armed struggle to reclaim the planet from the undead. In addition, the personal accounts describe the changing religious, geo-political, and environmental aftermath of the Zombie War.

Amazon.com: World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War: Max Brooks: Books

edit: WWZ is being made into a full length movie too.
