Default PSA: Change your passwords.

Evidently Russion hackers pulled off a massive data breach. 1.2 billion usernames and passwords were obtained. Might want to change your passwords, especially bank and email stuff.

Russian gang stole 1.2 billion Net passwords

Serious pita...

Security firm (from Milwaukee no less) who makes money off of instilling fear refuses to say the name of a single hacked website but we're to trust their 1.2B claim.

Not saying it didn't happen, I just have lost trust in anything released to the public by companies who rely on what they report to further their income.

From what I'm seeing in a few other articles I read on this is that the security breaches haven't been fixed so even changing passwords is like putting a band aid on a shotgun wound.

To follow up my previous post ...

Massive Russian hack has researchers scratching their heads | ITworld

With a choice quote that pretty much sums it up ...

"The only way we can know if this is a big deal is if we know what the information is and where it came from," said Chester Wisniewski, a senior security advisor at Sophos. "But I can't answer that because the people who disclosed this decided they want to make money off of this. There's no way for others to verify."

I agree it is a band aid over a shot gun wound. Still, I'd rather change my important stuff instead of leaving it to chance it's out there. Rather easy fix. It does get a bit repetitive doing it every few months for sure.
