Thumbs down I'm a moron... phone in the wash

So the idiot in me just decided to put my iphone 5s through the wash with my bedsheets it was in there for maybe 3-5 mins wrapped up in a sheet before I noticed. the machine was still filling up with water so I'm hoping it didn't get too soaked in that time. Took it out and through it straight into a bag of rice and zipped it up

any other like minded individuals out there that have gone through this experience? any suggestions or ideas to offer? while were at it, why not tell us all a story of the time you dropped a special piece of technology in water and how it turned out..

sucks, i only got this a month ago and its the first real phone i've ever had.. i've always been using the good ol' cheap prepaid flip bricks until now

I once skim boarded into the ocean with my phone in my pocket. I realized it was in my pocket right when I cut back to start riding the wave. I tried making it to shore without getting the phone wet but I didn't make it. The phone was soaked with salt water and never turned on again.

I dropped my phone into a dog's water dish - was in there for only about a second, but afterwards it wouldn't vibrate anymore and I had problems with the charger working unless I had it in there juuuuuust right. I didn't pop it into a bag of rice right away because where I was didn't have any on hand, and I didn't notice anything was wrong with it right away.

But a friend of mine dropped their phone into a cup of coffee or something - put it in rice and it turned out fine. Good luck! Upgrading my iphone to a 6 next weekend - if they have some stock.

Put it & a bunch of rice in a plastic bag. The rice will soak up most of the water. My wife's phone has been submerged 1x & my daughter's old phone went through 2 complete wash cycles.

Dropped iphone in toilet many times.. Aparently with the 5s and >, it can be submerged in water for 10 seconds and have no lasting damage... 5 minutes?.... ehhh.

I worked for Motorola for four years up until about two years ago.

First of all, DO NO try to turn it on right now. If you do and there's moisture in there, it could fry the circuitry. Put the phone in a bowl full of rice. Ideally, you'd disassemble before this step, but don't unless you know what you're doing. At least remove the back cover and battery on the phone if you can. Leave it there for at least 24 hours. 48 hours would be a lot better. After that, pop the battery back in, turn it on and cross your fingers.

Even if it works, shit may go bad later on if corrosion develops.

If only you could take the battery out with an iphone.. or the the back off in this case. What you might want to do is take the sim card out. Who knows

Shit, didn't see that it was a fruit phone. Open all the ports that you can and then throw it in the garbage... err, I mean that bowl of rice. Don't put it in a ziploc bag like some recommend. Moisture can't escape that ziploc bag. You want the moisture to be able to evaporate.

never heard this but I love it so much. I am going to use it forever now.

As a card carrying moron who artificially stimulates further retardation - has anyone seen my keys? Usually I find them but they gone 3-4 days now....

Doh.

If it don't work, take it to a Legit Apple Store (not a reseller) and tell them about your failure to read the washing instructions properly!!!!!

In all seriousness, they are pretty good at the Fruit Store!!!!!

My youngest daughter did the same with her Shamsung and they didn't even wanna know about it!!!!!

* this is in Australia, so I can't say what'll happen in another land!!!!!

Edit : And don't just ring them!!!!! Physically take it in to the store!!!!!
