I did an intensive ladder workout on Saturday morning. I have been in SO much pain ever since!!!!! My quads, calves and butt are still killing me and it's Monday morning. I think it was the pistol squats that did me in.
Seriously DOMS two days post workout?! Isn't that a bit extreme?
Hi their in my opinion the best thing to reduce aching by alot the next day is to take a large amount of protein straight after the workout ideally a protein shake (i take mutant pro 100 as its low fat and sugar as i dont want to build mass aswell). the protein will go straight to the muscles making the recover faster and also to build them stronger for next time. I love DOMS! Its a reminder of how good of a workout i got. If i dont get it, then i feel super unsatisfied. For me it always starts about 24-48 hrs after (i will feel fine the next day, and then usually by evening it starts, and lasts for a couple of days.
DOMS after doing squats/deadlifts for the first time literally lasted a week. I was stressing that it would affect my snowboarding that weekend, but once you start moving, DOMS disappears (mostly)
Fwiw, my doms doesn't usually begin until day two. Sometimes as early as 24 hours after the workout, but usually really starts hitting at like 30 hours. Wasn't always that way though. Really noticed that shift in the last five years.
