A quick legal test

Someone produces a statement which could effectively cost you $4k.

Would you write on the statement to confirm that you have received a copy of it and then sign this acknowledgement?
If not, what would you do instead?

Ah! I learned this in business law... I forgot what you sign on the document. The professor gave us a phrase to put on the document for these type of situations...

a'priori?

Reserve right to dispute?

blah... it's on the tip of my tongue.

Could you be more specific? What is compelling you to sign or acknowledge the statement at all?

Exactly... if I had access to a "statement" that was going to cost me $4k, I'd destroy it.

I'd wipe my ass with it. That usually gets the point across.
